And I don't understand wanting to ride in a car so low I can't get in and out of it and it get's stuck on speed bumps ...

That is why we are all individuals ....

I have seen some good looking vehicles jacked up and some good looking ones lowered ... I have also seen some pretty silly looking ones of both types

I personally would never lower a car or truck without a way to raise it over speed bumps with hydraulics or air suspension. I was going to put air suspension in the truck I had but sold it before I could ever do so. I’m also into tuners. There’s a term they use called “static.” It refers to a car that has been lowered on coil over suspension without a button to raise it back up. A lot of static guys are against the whole air suspension thing because they consider it “cheating.” When you lower a car like that all you do is tear it up over time going up driveways and speed bumps. The reason I like hydraulics and air suspension is because you can drive low or park it and lower it all the way on the frame... But you also can drive with it at stock height or higher. Which ever you prefer. You have limitless positions to chose from. With lift kits, lowering kits, coil overs and lowering springs, you’re stuck at one height all the time.

Here’s the last custom car I had built. It was a 79 Lincoln Mark V. I bought it in 2010 and it only had 32K original miles. I put 14x7 cross lace reverse wire wheels on it and hydraulics. It had original paint and interior. I had the vinyl top redone. It laid frame when lowered all the way. At its lowest point the frame rested on the axle tube. I didn’t finish it before I got rid of it. I plan on finishing the impala though.

I love the way Mark Vs lay on the ground. Wouldn’t mind having another one.

Is this the V16?  When I was a teenager, and only studying with the brothers... I stuck up a conversation with a brother, I would normally have never spoken to... (at a bookstudy...) He was telling me how he and his twin-brother made a working model of a Lincoln Continental V16 engine. When we stop and talk to the older ones in the congregation, those with a bit of millage... we open up some of the most interesting conversations.

It might be my age showing... but a couple of things here in NZ I just don’t get. Young ones, driving around in lowered utes, and low profile tires on 4x4s. What is this world coming to?

No, the 79 Mark V had a V8 400 engine. That’s the one I had. It was completely detuned from the previous years because of EPA mandates. The 77 and 78 had the 460 with dual exhaust. Mine had single exhaust.

Took the 66 out for a spin today. Filled up the tank and drove it for about 100 miles. It drives good and has plenty of power. Will have some serious mechanical work done to it soon.

I’m trying to trade my 66 with cash on top for this frame off restored 64 impala. This guy lives about 4 hours from me. It would be a good car for me because all of the hard work has already been done. It’s not an SS but it is in the silver blue poly paint color that I was already planning on doing a 64 in. This is right up my alley. I messaged the guy on YouTube last night but he hasn’t gotten back with me yet. We’ll see what happens.

Before I do anything to it I’m gonna put in a edelbrock carburetor, new air cleaner, manifold gasket, spark plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, new oil pan, oil pan gasket, change rear end seal and oil, transmission pan gasket, change transmission fluid, new radiator hoses, new fuel filter, and have the horn fixed.  I want this thing running right!

I had all this done, plus some. My mechanic said that my Edelbrock carburetor won’t work without adjustments and my original snorkel air cleaner won’t fit over it so I returned the carb. I’ll just pull the original one, get it rebuilt and install it myself. I vacuumed all the surface rust and dirt out of the trunk today.

My new gas tank came in the mail last week. I installed it today 😁

It was a pain getting the sending unit lock ring in the gas tank 😬

Dropped my car off at the transmission shop to get a rebuild yesterday. The guy called me today and said it needed one anyway. It’s gonna be pricey but I’m getting all heavy duty parts so the transmission can handle it when I rebuild the engine with a mild cam. I also get a lifetime unlimited mile warranty. They are also replacing the rear main seal on the engine 🙂

The other wheels were so nice why put the stock ones back on? It looked so nice.

That is such a pretty car.

Because I’m going to order some wire wheels. I admit that the 20” wheels looked a lot better than the stock wheels but neither way is my style. Plus I put the chrome wheels up for sale. I had to hurry up and take them off before I wore the tires down. I need as much tread on them as possible if I want to get a good amount of money for them.

I understand,  but those chrome wheels were so classy hon. Made the whole car look rad.

What wire wheels were you thinking of?

Lowrider style wire rims like these. 13” wheels. Many would say these wheels are too small but they don’t understand a lowrider thing. I don’t like big wheels on classic cars. Not even 20” wheels. Some classic cars do look good with them but that’s not my style. I’m a lowrider at heart. I’ve liked lowriders since I could remember and grew up around them and eventually started building my own.

You're welcome to it .... That is not my style - but then, neither is something jacked up so high you need a ladder to get in.

I will say, those are some nice looking cars -  just not my style .... this, on the other hand, I wouldn't mind the climb into
