Anyone have Hulu?

Recommended Posts

Just interested if anyone has Hulu.

I dropped satellite tv 📺 Dish.

Today is just my first day of the free trial and so far not impressed. But can’t or shouldn’t expect too much for $6 a month.  Was happy they had Animal Planet but not so happy for the only 5/6 shows they have on there. The show I love gotta pay extra. Not gonna do that.

Anyway, so far I can see me getting outta dodge before the month is over. ☹️

John is very satisfied with our Hulu subscription.  We started out at $39 a month for around 150 stations--all the major networks and local networks (PBS' 13 and NBC's 6), and an abundance of old shows and movies.

Then, Hulu upped the price five bucks.  But it is well worth it...for someone into watching TV.

John didn't watch for 45 years.  Now, he watches horse racing and the Tigers.

I just like to watch "The Incredible Dr. Pol". :D

I found an alternative if Hulu doesn't work. I bought a TV Firestick from Amazon. (They have a 4k version now. $20-$40)
With someone Tech savvy to set it up, there are quite a few steaming apps that have all the old historical movies and TV series available for low or no cost. (You still need to pay for the data...) and it can also access Hulu, Netflix and even JW Broadcasting if you want.
I find more rubbish on the cheaper subscriptions than I have time to spend.. . I let mine expire...

We cut the cord in 2009.  No cable.  No home phone.  We have only high-speed internet.

Where we live I have not been able to put up an aerial or terrestrial antenna.  The roof is too peaked for me to stand on and I don't have a 30 foot pole.  So, no antenna.

We have Hulu, Netflix, CBS All Access, and a few other Roku apps.  We pay for Netflix and share with family.  Our son and his wife pay for Hulu and share with family.

We will never switch back.

Hulu has current television shows from most of the networks.  You have to wait 1 day before you can watch them, but that's a small sacrifice.  So we watch all our NBC and ABC television shows a day later.  That is a challenge when watching live competition shows like Dancing with the Stars or America's Got Talent.  Avoiding spoilers sometimes is hard.

Hulu also has a great selection of older television shows.  We're re-watching (or watching for first time) The Bob Newhart Show and Full House.  My wife watched Golden Girls.

Netflix has Cheers

We watch police procedural (don't judge) and we have our fill of various shows on Hulu.

Live sports is the only challenge.  I use the NBCSports app.  This requires a cable subscription that we don't have.  However, my father-in-law has given us his user name and password.  I log in with that and I can watch any sports on NBC.  This also works for FoxSports Now, Food Network, and any other app that requires a cable subscription as long as it matches the package my father-in-law has.  Since he cannot get ESPN+, then we cannot get it either.

In a few months Disney+ is going to be bundled with Hulu along with ESPN+.  My son will be switching over to that.

For an extra fee you can get Hulu with a "Sling TV" like option that will allow you to watch live television.

If you have Roku, the Roku Channel is free and has a lot of quality programming.  Quality in this case being older movies and television shows from major companies.

On our Roku we have:

  • JW Broadcasting
  • Netflix
  • Hulu
  • abc (never use.  All the abc shows we watch are on Hulu)
  • bravo (I think I used it for 1 show.  Requires cable subscription)
  • CBS All Access
  • The CW (again, 1 show)
  • Dust (a science fiction channel with a handful of good shows.  I've not used it)
  • Food Network
  • FXNow (don't use.  Probably could remove)
  • NBC (we used for 1 NBC show we could not find on Hulu.  All the others are on Hulu)
  • PBS
  • SYFY
  • Roku Channel
  • Fox Sports
  • NBC Sports
  • NHL Network
  • CBS News (live streaming news.  The only live streaming news app I could find)
  • Weather Nation (live streaming weather, radar)
  • iHeart Radio
  • Tune In (like iHeart Radio)
  • YouTube
  • AccuRadio (like iHeart Radio)
  • Spotify
  • tubi (it's OK.  Has some limited shows)

You can put an antenna in your attic, I have 2, a simple RCA for one tv with a booster and a Clear Stream antenna also with a booster, both give me all the local channels out of Nashville, I'm about 25 miles south so a lot depends on your location to the broadcast stations, a Winegard LNA 200 pre amp/ booster works very good to amplify and lock in signals. I cut the cord years ago using a Roku with basic Hulu, I've had them all, Sling, Direct tv Now, Direct tv, Comcast, may cancel Hulu as it's only good for shows that you miss that are worth watching.
