"Yet, smoking cause 480,00 deaths per year in USA. That is about 1,300 per day."

wouldn't smoking be included with heart disease, cancer and strokes?

That all depends of how many have those 3 if they smoke or did not smoke. A lot of have those  3 never smoke at all.

Do car crashes cause this much upheaval in society though? You need to look at the implications of the event. Will it wipe out a whole sector of society like covid does? Does it put frontline health workers at risk too? Car crashes and deaths caused by smoking do not affect health worker’s health. Covid can. And when they are affected, we are.

For those finding difficulty in wearing face masks these 2 accessories may help.

1. If you find it uncomfortable hanging the mask off your ears, you can buy an extender to allow fastening the mask behind your head. The ladies in Singapore wearing a head covering use such extenders to wear the masks over their head covering.

2. If the mask fabric is too near your nose they may stick to your nose making it hard to breathe. These "mask brackets" create a gap between your nose and the mask. Wear the mask, then slip the "mask bracket" in. (In Singapore, they cost about US 70 cents each retail)

This would be a good mask additive for news reporters and others that are speaking to crowds while wearing a mask, I think! Their speech wouldn't sound too muffled, maybe.

AS JW's we give thanks everyday!

'This will get worse.' A top US official says hospitalizations and deaths will keep climbing as Covid-19 cases explode nationwide

"We don't want to give the virus while we're giving thanks."

"As you've heard so many times before, we know how to fix this," Giroir told CNN Wednesday night. "It's all about absolute adherence to wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, and yes, we can keep the economy open but we're going to have to diminish indoor places like indoor dining and restaurants."

Just how bad things will get will also be determined by Thanksgiving celebrations next week. Health officials and local leaders have warned against traditional holiday gatherings, saying those will likely help further drive the surge of cases.

Not just next week at Thanksgiving, but for this entire next month until New Year's.  These are 3 holidays within 6 weeks of each other that are known for large family gatherings.

Managers at Tyson meat plant had betting pool on how many workers would get Covid, lawsuit alleges

Tyson supervisors at a pork processing facility in Waterloo, Iowa took bets on how many workers would get infected with Covid-19, even as they took measures to protect themselves and denied knowledge of the spread of the illness at work, according to new allegations in a lawsuit against the company and some employees.

Shame shame, I guess there weren't any sports teams for them to bet on at the time!

Those meat plants can be unclean and dangerous. Meat plants can be clean, but takes a little more money to do so and the bosses want to put that money into their pockets.

New Year gatherings is an all out gathering and can be super dangerous this time. How thankful that we know that the last two holidays are pagan. And we can be thankful any time without a turkey. I prefer chocolate.

Till death do you part!

The joy of weddings is leading to the misery of coronavirus spread across America

Weddings are so dangerous in this day and age, quite honestly you're just asking for trouble," said Ali H. Mokdad, chief strategy officer for Population Health at the University of Washington.

In Millinocket, Maine, an Aug. 7 wedding at the Big Moose Inn has led to the infection of at least 177 people and seven deaths.

A Richmond, Virginia, nursing home reported at least 16 cases that were linked to a wedding last month, officials said.

A wedding with 83 guests in Cincinnati on Oct. 7 led to 32 guests getting infected, not to mention people those guests might have contacted outside of the event.

More than four dozen people in eastern Washington were sickened in an outbreak traced back a Nov. 7 wedding in Ritzville, Washington, which included more than 300 guests.

"This is the perfect example of what we don’t want to see," said Karen Potts, director of the Adams County Health Department in eastern Washington. "It’s just a real risk right now."

The unholy union of weddings receptions and coronavirus has public health officers pleading with Americans to say "I don't" to pandemic nuptials.

Between the Pacific Northwest and forests of Maine, all across the country, joyous expressions of love have become Covid-19 superspreaders, fueling the fall season's deadly coronavirus spike.

I do not know if this was posted but:

https://nypost.com/2020/11/22/gov-cuomo-calls-hasidic-wedding-a-blatant-disregard-of-law/

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday blasted a Hasidic synagogue for hosting a secret maskless wedding with thousands of guests, saying the potential coronavirus superspreader event was “a blatant disregard of the law” as he called on the de Blasio administration to investigate.

“It was a blatant disregard of the law. It’s illegal. It was also disrespectful to the people of New York,” Cuomo said during a press briefing at his Midtown office — prefacing the condemnation with a hedged “if that happened,” despite photos and videos showing the gathering.

“The law protects everybody. It protects you, but it also protects me,” he said.

Cuomo said New York City “should do a robust investigation” of the Nov. 8 nuptials, and later noted that “from my information,” the de Blasio administration is, in fact, investigating the matter.

The Post on Saturday published an exposé on the wedding held inside the Yetev Lev temple in Williamsburg.

Videos obtained by The Post show hordes of guests packed shoulder to shoulder in the Satmar synagogue, which has a maximum capacity of 7,000, despite a surge in COVID-19 cases and in defiance of coronavirus safety restrictions.

I watched my local news, and they showed thousands at the big airports  showing people packed to leave for the holiday.  A majority were for warm states, like a vacation not so much seeing grandmom or dad.  In my state the governor was severe, he ordered state police to arrest anyone who is not abiding by the rules for mask wearing and social distancing.  People have been asked to call the state to report stores,  restaurants, bars and any retail store that does not abide by the law.  So, sooner or later, things are changing over night for the worse.  He told reporters that this virus has killed more people then the Vietnam war.  So he said its extremely deadly and the State is aware and this is why our rules are being updated daily.

‘Disrespectful' of Thousands to Attend Secret Orthodox Wedding in Brooklyn

A Brooklyn synagogue should be investigated over reports that it hosted a secret wedding with thousands of unmasked guests earlier this month, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.

“If that happened, it was a blatant disregard of the law,” Cuomo said during a briefing in New York City. “It’s illegal. It was also disrespectful of the people of New York.”

The New York Post reported that guests, mostly unmasked, crammed inside the Yetev Lev temple in Williamsburg for the Nov. 8 wedding of Yoel Teitelbaum, a grandson of Satmar Grand Rabbi Aaron Teitelman, in blatant violation of coronavirus restrictions that ban large indoor gatherings. The synagogue has a capacity of 7,000 people.

This is grossly incorrect.

Maybe he just meant US casualties.  Vietnam War: 58,300.  Coronavirus: 263,630

I went back to listen to his speech and he didn't say Vietnam. He said there are more deaths from the virus then all drunk driving accidents in last couple of years in state.  Thank you for researching that.

The latest - from the Washington Post

With minimal help from the federal government, mayors and governors of both parties are making unilateral, desperate attempts to slow the virus's spread without wrecking their economies. A voluntary “lockdown” in Newark; a belated mask mandate in Ohio; and the mayor of Denver's plea that residents stay home for the next month: “I know this is hard. I know you hate this.”

These combined local efforts are dragging the United States closer to something resembling a national shutdown, but our Health desk writes that it's probably too little, too late. “Most governors are trying to fight a forest fire of infection with garden-hose measures, and they aren’t even aiming at the right targets or starting at the right time,” warned Anne Sosin, program director at the Dartmouth College Center for Global Health Equity.

Thanksgiving could be the 'mother of all superspreader events,' health expert warns

...millions of Americans are traveling for Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with family and friends. They're packing into airports and boarding planes, ignoring guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advising against traveling this year.

Many health officials believe the Midwest was seeded with Covid-19 last summer from just such an event, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota,  (I posted this back when it took place in August!)

"Now imagine that on a massive scale -- people leaving from every airport in the United States, and carrying virus with them," he added.

Americans have been clamoring for Covid-19 tests before they travel, but Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Brett Giroir said during a press conference Tuesday don't bother, that a test isn't necessarily a good way to gauge whether an individual is fine to travel, unless they test positive, which in that case means stay home.
