When did you first start going grey?

Recommended Posts

So, this is pure curiosity, and I thought it would make a fun subject.

Since from somewhere last year, I noticed my first grey hair appear in my fringe! At first I thought it was a fluke, until of course it grew back after a hair cut, along with a second one. Today I looked in the mirror, and I spot yet another strand! This time on the right side of my head at the very front edge.

So it seems I'm oh so slowly going grey, and I'm 26 (27 in July). I've heard of some people going grey young, even younger than myself. It doesn't worry me however, I think it's kind of cool in a way 😄.

So, what about others here who have attained their silver crowns of glory?

I had a very close friend died a couple months ago, told me that his brother had complete grey hair by the age of 20. Why? He was a WW 2 Veteran and survived the bombing of Peril Harbor. I think my friend told me he was one of ships when one of the missile hit the cafeteria and was in the movies too.

From what I've read, it has a lot to do with being in a chronic sympathetic state (fight or flight) which damages the nervous system and the cells that create the melanin pigment. My hair started receding as early as 15 or so. I had lost most of the blonde/golden/reddish gradient I grew up with in my early 20s, it changed into a meh brown, and the fringes where it is thin in front and top are clear. I have the occasional stray gray/white hair in the eyebrows and around the ears, but there's not enough contrast to notice it.

The age at which graying begins seems almost entirely due to genetics. Sometimes people are born with gray hair because they inherit the trait. The order in whichgraying happens is usually: nose hair, hair on the head, beard, body hair, eyebrows. In non-balding individuals, hair may grow faster once it turns gray.

My own personal experience supports the above genetic explanation.

My Grandmother, Rose, was from Eastern Europe.  She was in her eighties

before her waist-length raven black hair began to grey.  In fact, she died of pancreatic cancer

before her hair completely went grey.

Not sure about my Mom, since she has been hiding her hair under hair coloring for as long as I can

remember.

My Dad was in his seventies when his began to go grey, white, actually.

But, with the exception of one stubborn strand of grey in the middle of my forehead, which appeared

about ten years back, my hair has waited til now (69) to begin to show a little more grey.  Not really grey,

either.  Looks more like it was bleached by the sun...which happens every summer. :D

I was in my 50's before I started going grey.   Some would ask me if I was using something on my hair.   (Of course I wasn't)    Anyways I began growing grey hair in my 50's.

I noticed that there are NO likes on this subject .   LOL

I’m 33 and I’ve never noticed any grey hair on my head when I grow it out but according to a family member she has seen at least one in my head. Going grey early runs on my moms side of the family with the women. My mom started going grey at 14!

The Hebrew word cushi or kushi is an affectionate term generally used in the Bible to refer to a dark-skinned person of African descent.

I don’t have grey hair....I have “wisdom hi-lights”, since my mid thirties.

Matthew, the problem is, too many birthdays are bad for your health.
