Yes, the show was good - but in my opinion books are better. 😊

Books are usually better than the television show/movie with a few exceptions (Jurassic Park, for example).

I finished this a few weeks ago, loved it.

Just finished John Grisham's "The Reckoning." It's about a man who murders a small town pastor seemingly for no good reason, but the book delves into his military service during WWII. Be forewarned, the Bataan Death March and other atrocities are discussed at length. Not Grisham's best, but a solid book.

Currently reading "Tomlinson's Wake" by Randy Wayne White.

Grisham ... I just finished "Skipping Christmas" he can be funny too.

Thanks for the warning on Reckoning.

Reading on my local history in 1891. A big fire happened and it almost wiped out a mile of businesses and homes. It was on a Saturday and the busiest day of the week, plus a court was in session too. They had to get out because if I’m right the court house was burned too.

Space Odyssey, by Michael Benson.

On the making of the movie 2001: a Space Odyssey. No end of things I didn’t know.

Q: What is the first sign that HAL the computer is losing its grip?

A: It makes a tiny mistake in summing up its next winning chess moves, after declaring victory over Frank, the astronaut it is playing.

Still working through "Can't We be Friends" and starting another Grisham novel, "Camino Ghosts" which is about a real island off the coast of Florida called Dark Isle (off the St. Lawrence River and part of the Thousand Islands).

I may be the only person consistently replying to my own topic. :D

I'm currently reading Camino Ghosts by John Grisham, The Ghost Orchid by Jonathan Kellerman, and The Giver by Lois Lowry.

I'm reading "All But My Life" by Gerda Weissmann Klein, a memoir of her life as a Jewish child/teen taken by the Nazis. It was made into a documentary. I haven't read Kellerman's latest, but it's on my list. I read The Giver a few years ago, I think there are more books with it?..anyhoos that's it for me..

I've never read any Grisham, I'm a classics girl myself, but my boys have enjoyed his middle grade novels about Theodore Boone.  I read the Giver in my early teens and enjoyed it-trying to interest my 14 yo in it but she declares it 'boring'.

We're reading Wind in the Willows as a family.  I'm currently reading numerous books myself, including Kon Tiki and Return of the Native (Thomas Hardy) and Atomic Habits.  I'm reading a Russian novel a year, so far I've read Anna Karinina and Crime and Punishment.   Pondering  what to read this year.

Sadly, my eyes and brain and my neck dont like to read so  I stick to our study material for our meetings ... but I do like the idea of reading although I have never really been fond of fiction and have found too often the choices had subject matter troubling my conscience - same reason I find so many movies no longer work for me.

This past year I have bought several books to support our brothers and put my name in the front along with the congregation name and have lent them out with the invitation to share - even mark up and or highlight and then to pass them on... for them not to sit on a shelf!

Hubby came home from the meeting on Wednesday and shared that one set is now on with its 5th reader and circulating through other congregations.  I have heard some have devoured a book in a couple days.  So thank you Tom and Thomas!!! 🙂

The books that I have currently circulating:

  • Now on Earth - Thomas Walker
  • Set Free - Thomas Walker
  • Just See Yourself - Thomas Walker
  • Released - Thomas Walker
  • The Undecided - Thomas Walker
  • The Workman's Theodicy: Why Bad Things Happen - Tom Harley
  • I Dont Know Why We Persecute Jehovah's Witnesses - Tom Harley

These ones are a more difficult read only because of the evil of war, so not a bedtime read:

  • Unfettered Joy - Hermine Schmidt
  • Death Always Came on Mondays - Horst Schmidt
  • Faith on the March - Alexander Hugh Macmillan
  • No Greater Love - How My Family Survived the Genocide in Rwanda - Tharcisse Seminega

I have some books by EK Jonathan in my cart on Amazon to make part of my sharing library and was  hoping maybe someone here has read and perhaps recommend which ones to start with?

Each one of his books are separate topics. You'll find good comments in each of those.

he Crossroads — Author C.J. Box

In #1 New York Times bestseller C.J. Box’s electrifying new thriller, THE CROSSROADS (Putnam; On Sale February 24, 2026), Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett lies near death after a brutal ambush at a remote junction where three ranches meet—and every path leads to danger. As his wife and daughters race to uncover who shot him and left him for dead, they find themselves caught in a deadly web of greed, secrets, and betrayal that reaches far beyond their small town.

It’s a literal and moral crossroads for every character—from corrupt ranchers to the Pickett daughters, who must decide how far they’ll go for justice.

Spoiler

THE CROSSROADS is a gripping, family-centered mystery for both loyal fans and newcomers. Readers love Joe Pickett—a likeable, dogged hero who always tries to do the right thing—and this time, his three daughters share the spotlight.

Set against the fierce beauty of the modern West, where energy empires, cartels, and powerful families vie for control of the land, Box delivers a timely, emotionally charged thriller about family, loyalty, and the cost of standing for what’s right in a world where corruption runs deep.

Quote

“Box changes things up to spectacular results in his latest Joe Pickett extravaganza, The Crossroads. Or, should I say, Marybeth Pickett extravaganza . . . The Crossroads is a stunning success of form and function painted on an entirely different tapestry than the great wide open we’re used to.”

-BookTrib

Me, I only read the reviews. Can't afford to buy the latest books.

Right now I'm reading the 'Chicken soup for the soul'  book that I picked up from the thrift shop. I tear up a few pages to read when I'm out and then discard them. One story I kept for my close friend: it's about a lady who had to give up her new born son and years later managed to meet up with him. My friend was given up for adoption very soon after he was born. A real messed person who is penniless now.

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool 🎨for creativity. It causes a rush 🌊 of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

It was great ! I feels a bit rushed when you've read the book, but it's normal, it's difficult to fit all the details in a movie.
It's entertaining and even for children

I loved the movie as well, though I have not read the book yet. Is there a lot of differences? Would it be a good read shortly after seeing a movie?

I'm currently reading Player One by Ernest Cline and I think it's really engrossing, regardless of whether you've seen the movie
