Story is reported at The Daily Mail.

I was hoping the reporter would give the story context by pointing out our position in contrast to the Catholic.

Our GB sent Hitler a telegraph stating in plain language that if he didn't stop persecuting JW's then God would destroy his Third Reich.

The story has fascinating pictures of the ostentatious church !  Those costumes !!!

I think Judge Rutherford was behind that letter.

Right you are bro.

Early in 1934 , a personal letter was written by J.F. Rutherford to Adolf Hitler and delivered to him by special messenger.

Entire letter dated October 7, 1934 is found in page 694 of Proclaimers book.

Furthermore, the same day, JW's throughout the earth met, prayed, then sent a cablegram: "Your ill-treatment of Jehovah's witnesses shocks all good people of earth and dishonors God's name. Refrain from further persecuting Jehovah's witnesses; otherwise God will destroy you and your national party" .

Just to clarify. That letter on page 694 is not the personal letter by Rutherford, which was written early in 1934.

“It’s not how much we know that pleases Jehovah, but how we feel about what we know and how we have allowed that knowledge to increase our love for Jehovah.”

INTERESTING !!!!

The caption states "the following letter   was sent to the German government    by every congregation of JW's IN GERMANY"

So, not from Rutherford. From domestic congregations.

Thank you for clarification.

I wonder how Judge Rutherford expressed himself ?!?

I would not rule out Rutherford. If I am right, Knorr might wrote Quebec Burning Hate. Powerful tract.

There's an Awake from 1990s, I believe, that addresses the confrontation

Witnesses’ Resolute Stand

Despite these initial attacks, Jehovah’s Witnesses stood their ground and publicly denounced the oppression and injustice. The November 1, 1933, issue of The Watchtower featured the article “Fear Them Not.” It was prepared especially for the German Witnesses, exhorting them to take courage in the face of mounting pressure.

On February 9, 1934, J. F. Rutherford, the president of the Watch Tower Society, sent a letter of protest to Hitler stating: “You may successfully resist any and all men, but you cannot successfully resist Jehovah God. . . . In the name of Jehovah God and His anointed King, Christ Jesus, I demand that you give order to all officials and servants of your government that Jehovah’s witnesses in Germany be permitted to peaceably assemble and without hindrance worship God.”

Rutherford set March 24, 1934, as the deadline. He said that if by that time relief did not come to the German Witnesses, the facts about the persecution would be published throughout Germany and the rest of the world. The Nazis answered Rutherford’s demand with stepped-up abuses, sending many of Jehovah’s Witnesses to the concentration camps that had recently been set up. Thus, they were among the first inmates of these camps.

I believe the first on-record execution within a concentration camp was that of a faithful German brother who refused to serve in the military.

It would have clearly been intended to send a message to anyone who might entertain such thoughts.

I had a book called "The Vicar Of Christ." This book EXPOSED the ties of the Catholic Church and Germany when Adolf Hitler became Chancellor, in 1933.  The the pope sent his emissary to Berlin, and they made a pack (concordant) together, to exterminate any opposer of the Catholic Religion, and op-poser's to Hitler's regime.    The church owned vast amounts of businesses in Holland, The Netherlands, and in Germany.  They were disguised with names that seemed not to tie the churches involvement with the German State.   The church owned thousands of acres of property around the world. In 1933, with the concordant signed and they signed more then one.   Gave the rights of railways in Germany, France, Italy, Poland to ship opposer to camps.  Many were the concentration camps for our brothers, Jews, political prisoners, and later captured soldiers of whatever country (Russian, French, English)  You were considered a loyal and good Catholic to remove any Jew from your city or town.  Now not all the Catholic priests and nuns (lower ranks, and in smaller villages) agreed with this concordant.  They did try to save as many as they could.  Even some of them were sent to concentration camps and killed.  Because they stood against the almighty Vicar of Christ, the pope before WWII and afterwards up till his death in the late 50's.

I don't know if that book is still around, It was in my library and I recall a WT years ago, that mentioned this book and a few pages and pictures, that showed the cardinals involved up in Berlin, signing all sort of peace packs with Hitler, the good little Catholic.  There were other books written by other authors on the power of the church during WWII.   It always denied that it had involvement with Hitler, but soon or later, the truth comes out.

If you've ever read the book " Hitler's Pope, The Secret Life of Pius X11", by John Cornwell, it explains exactly what went on in the Catholic church during Hitler's rise to power and the war years. And his source was the Vatican archives.
