JWLibrary catalog file

Recommended Posts

The JWLibrary app on my PC wont update the catalog file. The catalog file is currently dated August 8th.

I have deleted publications and reinstalled them, I have imported publications, I have let the PC sit for hours while it updates, I have rebooted the computer several times, I have shut off the wifi and then restarted it, I have done everything that I can think of except reinstall the app.

I'd like to delete just the catalog file and see if it downloads the file again, except I cant find the catalog file.

Does anyone know where I can locate the JWLIBRARY catalog file?

I don't know.  I always thought it was the catalog on the JW.ORG servers that was being compared.  Sort of like their "copyright date" or "edition number".  Not subject to our manipulation.  It usually shows the date I updated my files.  I just looked and it showed yesterdays date (the 28th), but while I was watching it changed to today's date (29th) in Easter Daylight Time.  I wasn't downloading anything at that moment that I was aware of.

I have had numerous problems with my older laptop with JW Library over the past few weeks ( maybe the result of getting all the current MS Windows 10 updates and upgrades) .

I was resigned to uninstall and reinstall and download the basic 2020 files on it and I so glad to have the personal study files to back up.

To me that is the thing I look for is my backed up copy of personal study notes which I maintain very carefully.

So far so good from reinstalling JW Library yesterday on it.

It appears to be in: C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\WatchtowerBibleandTractSo.45909CDBADF3C_5rz59y55nfz3e\LocalState\Catalog\Production

Just move them to your desktop or something to test.

If you replace <User Name> in the folder path with your user name, then you actually shouldn't need to show hidden files. But if you desire to rummage through operating system files and backup and break things with reckless abandon as I do, then in Windows 10's File Explorer you can switch from the Computer tab to the View tab at the top left. There is a toggle there for showing hidden system operating files, as well as a link to the full Folder Options menu which also has an option for hidden files inside its View tab.

It looks like that fixed the problem.  I renamed the file and then opened the app, it immediately updated the catalog file and now shows the new publications that are available.  Thank you!

Excellent, thank you! I also wondered where it was! Much appreciated ☺️

I suggest that if anyone has a problem with their PC JWLIBRARY app not showing the latest publications that are available to download, they rename or temporarily move the catalog file before they resort to reinstalling the app.

Which one is the catalog file that needs renaming?

In my case, the biggest file was dated 8/8/20 so I changed its file name. Interestingly, the renamed file disappeared after the app checked for new publications.

I'm having the same issue.  The catalog date wont change and its currently showing January 27, 2021.  I renamed the catalog file, but the app wont update or allow to download any content.  Any suggestions?

Thanks @On the huh Deleting all files does update the latest publications, but does NOT allow me to download them.  The download loops (purple dots don't stop moving) and does not change the catalog date. The date still is January 27, 2021.  I've let it run for hours, but nothing.

That is strange. I noticed that it shows the new videos but it hasn't updated your Toolbox.

@Tortuga I know its very strange.  I’m running Windows ARM on M1 Mac using Parallels. I’m able to import JWLibrary files, but I would like to download content right of JW Library app and have content updated like the Toolbox and meetings.  I'm running JW Language app with no problem, I can download and use the app with no issues.  I appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.  Thank you!

I am having this same problem too. I just moved to MAC from Windows and thought I can use JW Library with Parallels, but it does not download anything. I am really confused why this happens. I mean, it can't be the ARM Windows 10 and when networking works normally, it must be some conflict with Parallels? Hopefully someone finds a solution.

Do, or do not. There's no try.
