I think the answer to this riddle is the account in Judges 21:19-23.

I heard a slightly different version:

The rich want it

The poor have it

if you eat it you will die.

I usually saved the last 2 lines until last.  When the person was stumped I added:

What is greater than God and worse than Satan?

 

Although I don't agree that the rich want nothing.
