Beards (Not the usual topic)

Recommended Posts

I just tryed several, shaving machines - Braun, philips and now panasonic), and manual shavig blades - Now using gillette 5 blades

StillI'm not satisfied with any result... The machines are good for my sensitive skin but I can't get a close shave no matter I try. I get more or less acceptable results but with several passages ad lng time. Thed only reason I still use them is that I don't need to wash my face and can do it with clothes on...

The gillette blades are great for a close shave but still I get several cuts and harsh skin

There is a ew thing from gillette that the gillette labs heated razor tat seems to e an high tech thing, but don't know if it's just a gimmic or has some real differences. I'ts hard to try as it costs a loooot! - Anyone tried this?

Wht's your shaving ideas for a close confortable shave?

Myself I just use electric shavers, I don't trust live blades not to carve my face up, lol. I've found though the level of "cleaness" varies per shaver, some will really give a close shave, others you still have a bit of a shadow.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Electric-PQ203-17-Cordless/dp/B008PPGHMW/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=philips+shavers&qid=1615993407&sr=8-15 so I use that for my neck (given that I have facial hair, which I use other shavers/trimmers for). I find there is no trace of hair or stubble using that.

Some people use balms for after comfort or cooling, but I find ironically I can't use post shaving balms, as they make my neck bleed after I apply them, even though there are no cuts or nics at all before I apply.

I'm black but my facial hair isn't very coarse. My skin is very sensitive to razor bumps.

A few years ago I started using beard oil daily, even when clean shaven. I use Proraso White shaving creme and a dual edge safety razor with an open comb after a week I stopped getting razor bumps.

The moisturizing of the beard oil is probably what did it, but I like the safety razor and the shaving creme.

Can you share more info on that dual edge safety razor?

I just use a dual-blade razor from Walmart (cheap brand) and I shave with soap (not shaving cream) while taking my shower. While I can't say it leaves my face "as smooth as glass" it does not feel like sandpaper when I am done.

On the other subject of this thread "Beards (Not the usual topic)" perhaps it should have been named "Shaving - what is a good razor" or something like that

That's what I use! (Fusion Proglide) I find them very good. I've got semi-sensitive skin, but have no problems with these. But I get a closer shave with these than I ever did with anything else.

I am also in agreement with John's comment above about how you named the topic. I admire your courage for daring to use that "B" word there, but maybe that problem could have been eliminated entirely.

one thing to add. a hundred pack of DE blades usually costs me $25 US and lasts for about 30 months. however I do not shave everyday and only clean shave for meetings.

I never tried this 2 blade shavers... I was always afraid of that! But, I guess it's one more thing to try :)

It appears to me extremely cheap

What I am also going to try is the hot skin method. Getting the face hot with towels, and then use a shaving bruch to apply cream - apparently this will raise the hair better, and spread the lather evenly in between the hair, much better than applyind the cream with the hand or applying shaving foam on a not heated skin

I've never used a shaving brush, so that's one more thing to try :)

Regarding the name of the thread it was on purpose to be a click bait 😛

Isn't that a sword ... not an axe?

Funny thing is, I thought that looked like an historical shaving blade in that WT picture. With that scripture, I always picture something like this (or a bit shorter, but in this style).
