Religion in the news

As a local government employee for the last 30 years, I can confirm that religion has been pushed on me, but not in ways anyone thinks of as pushing religion. I regularly get notices of blood drives, I regularly get asked to sign Birthday cards, go to the Christmas party, dress up for Halloween, participate in the pumpkin/ jack-o'-lantern contest, Easter, etc.

As for someone actually wanting to discuss religion - other than these religious celebrations - I've never had that happen, unless I started th conversation.

I don't understand the need for an Executive Order to do what has been done for decades already.

It's because there is nothing else important to worry about or issue an Executive Order about. Everything is fine. :)

Really?

Yeah, really. I'm sure he didn't mean the dictionary definition but, rather, your opinion. Where does your conscience lay?

Are you accepting of Disney or does it offend you because their classic movies use magic routinely? The animated Alice is no worse than Cinderella or Snow White. In fact, I don't recall if there is any magic in it at all, at least not by name. Alice falls down a hole and enters a mythical realm. Or it was just a dream while unconscious.

There's not even a single witch.

I love the Tim Burton version. The Disney one of course is classic.  Of course, I'm also fine with Cinderella, Snow White, The Wizard of Oz, etc...

From Meriam Webster: occult

: matters regarded as involving the action or influence of supernatural or supernormal powers or some secret knowledge of them

It takes place in a fantasy world with things like a talking rabbit, an invisible cat, and drinks that change your size

Based on the definition you gave, these would be occult

Some stuff is just fantasy and sci-fi like doing magic tricks.

A lot of the older Disney stuff is fantasy. Harry Potter is not fantasy. It is directly portraying the occult.

Maybe they should start by stopping executing people who leave islam

Good point that would very much help the preaching work 😃.

In this instance it was the original book by Charles Dodgson, under his pen name Lewis Carroll. He used two different persons each under the sobriquet 'Alice', one of who's burial gravestones is in the graveyard in Lyndhurst, in the New Forest.

Charles Dodgson was also an internationally famous quizzer, he often used the  nickname, Choker when corresponding about quizzing, and made a number of quiz styles himself.

Alice is having a dream about Wonderland.. it's not actually happening. Personally, I don't mind dreamed experiences in films.

I don't believe in 'opinions' as to what words mean. That confuses communication. I stick with the dictionary's definition.

I was surprised to see it is animated. I haven't actually seen the movie yet. I am not easily offended. I just asked a question about a movie I haven't seen.

I believe the question was simple enough. My bad 😂

Nope. Fantasy does not equal occult.

I didn't mean to bring this thread off topic again. If you have more about these films, consider pm me. I should have pm'd the person that mentioned Alice ... also. Sorry! :surrender:

Stories with talking animals are literally supernatural if you stick to the definition that you gave

Perhaps this can be split into its own topic.

Perhaps this should be made it's own thread? I find it to be a very interesting segue.

@Dark King Thanks for the Awake! research links 🙂

Speaking of storytelling, does anyone recall a past WT article which, essentially, pointed to what Jehovah has been unfolding since the first prophecy was written? I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was a study article.

I recall in the introduction, the FDS observed that most storylines are predictable rehashes of old themes (a young maiden in some sort of distress, a villian, a hero to rescue her, etc.), but that the greatest for all-time 'story' there ever was, or will be, is the one Jehovah has been unfolding since time began. This came out several years ago—15-20 years ago? more? less? I've tried looking for it but to no avail.

British Jewish Leaders Urge Gaza Aid

The UK’s Board of Deputies—the largest Jewish body—publicly demanded a “rapid, uninhibited, and sustained increase” in aid to Gaza. This marked a rare political stance critiquing Israel, though without calling for changes in UK foreign policy. Their action reflects internal divisions after disciplinary measures were taken against members who spoke critically of Israel’ policies.

Catholic Protest in India over Nuns’ Arrests

In Kerala, hundreds—including priests and lay church members—marched in protest of the arrests of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, accused of forced conversions and human trafficking. Kerala’s church leaders called the arrests politically motivated. Opposition politicians linked the arrests to misuse of religious conversion laws.

There are talking animals and trees in the Bible. Our previous translation of the the Bible even has a story that begins, "Once upon a time..."  :) (Judges 9:8)

Let us be careful of talking about religion. I just got a free car wash by the church sprinklers down the street from me. Thank God for BT.

Yes, Jehovah's people is in her the prostitute religious institute. Jehovah loves these people. It cares about them. A great deal and we should love these people care about them and respect them and want them to be in a new system with us for an eternity. That's why we go through the door because Jehovah's people are inside the religious prostitute and he wants them with us in the new system.

And please don't mind my ebonics

Lol 😆  my husband said ebonics should be an option in map GPS for directions like any other language. I kinda agree. 🤪

Yes please! We've been discriminated on everything. Grammar apps, also like you said GPS maps, Google voice and artificial intelligence listening even on jw.org they don't have ebonics. I'm looking forward to the new system. When Jehovah says yes, Ebonics isn't official language of Jehovah's people.

Nobody should have to mind anything and respect the language or dialect people are familiar with. There is a translation of the Bible in Hawai'i Pidgin. If ANYONE has issues with ebonics tell them to download that translation of the NWT (while incomplete) and read through the love Jehovah has provided for those friends. As long as your language is clean and not bringing reproach on Jehovah's name, speak what's comfortable unapologetically.
