I never heard about this, despite the fact that it was happening right under my nose. I'm not too familiar with the Portuguese community, but I've heard lots about the Quebec government imposing their laws (about language [French must take precedence], about public prayer [generally not allowed], about secularism [clothing that identifies one's religion], etc) on the population. Of course, those laws have no effect on Jehovah's Witnesses, but I can easily see why it would introduce problems for other religions. I known only a little bit about the Portuguese people who live here, fanning the flames whenever the Portuguese teams are playing in an end-of-season match, or this procession. Yes, they can be a stubborn bunch.
