A New Hate Crime, “Jehovahphobia.” 1. USCIRF Reports Increased Jehovah’s Witness Persecution

The American federal commission updated its 2020 report on the widespread attacks against the religious organization.

 

The term “Jehovahphobia” has been introduced to describe irrational fear, hatred, discrimination, or prejudice against Jehovah’s Witnesses. This concept encompasses verbal or physical attacks on individuals or communities due to their faith, as well as the propagation of negative stereotypes about Jehovah’s Witnesses.

 

A November 2024 report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) highlights ongoing persecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses in various countries. The report notes that extremism laws and the lack of recognition for conscientious objection have led to the imprisonment of hundreds of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Additionally, some nations deny them legal recognition and impose discriminatory policies.

 

In the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) region, the 2023 report on hate crimes by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) recorded 154 incidents targeting Jehovah’s Witnesses out of 570 anti-Christian hate crimes, an increase from 129 incidents in 2022.

 

The USCIRF report identifies Russia as a particularly severe case of persecution. Since the Russian Supreme Court declared Jehovah’s Witnesses “extremist” in 2017, authorities have conducted over 2,000 searches of their homes and initiated criminal cases against more than 800 members. As of October 2024, over 140 Jehovah’s Witnesses were either in pretrial detention, subjected to forced labor, imprisoned, or under house arrest.

 

These findings suggest that “Jehovahphobia” is a significant issue, warranting recognition alongside other forms of religious discrimination such as anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and Christianophobia. Addressing this form of hate crime is crucial to ensuring religious freedom and protecting the rights of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide.

IRISH STAR reports the Vatican is close to bankruptcy due to dramatic decline in global donations under Pope Francis' leadership.  The Vatican reports an operating deficit of $87,000,000 in 2023.  Observers say it's because of Francis' progressive policies are off-putting to the laity and they aren't donating like before.

Exactly! We have a young girl in my mom's hall whose Dad married a sister while she was disfellowshipped, but the mom was reinstated and the Dad came into the truth afterwards, and the young girl is so excited about the truth because she said in her old church they didn't learn anything. She loves going to meetings because she loves that she is actually learning something!
