Wow! 8 people killed.

PHILIPPINES — Eight people were killed after back-to-back earthquakes struck the northern Philippines Saturday morning, according to CNN Philippines, citing a disaster official.

Roldan Escudil, Batanes provincial disaster risk reduction and management council chief, provided early details about the quakes in a radio interview.

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Batanes archipelago, the US Geological Survey reported.

About 20 minutes later, a second quake hit the same area near Itbayat at a magnitude of 4.5.

Photos from the Philippine Red Cross showed damage to homes. Photos posted on Facebook showed Itbayat Church in Batanes sustained damage to is facade and steeple. The picture showed people gathered outside the church.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 (Depth : 10 km / 6,2 mile ) shocked Banten (West Java-Indonesia) with the potential of a tsunami.

Looks like they're on a boat? It seems to be rocking in the water at this point, but not quite like a tsunami.

@tuntun How are you there? Is it far or is it close?

Not long after the earthquake struck, the government sent a short message to all the cellphones of residents living in certain provinces. People poured out of shopping centers and from their homes. but after nothing bad happened, they returned to their respective homes. How about you?, i read earthquake also struck several countries too yesterday.

@tuntun I live in Baguio City.. Americans built this city  in 1901  for the gold.   .. We had killer earthquakes in 1992.. But we didn't have disastrous earthquakes yet..

Near our city, we always have landslide every year where in lots of people die.  But this year, its little rain.

In 2013, we had the strongest typhoon haiyan in which more than 7,000 people died including some of bro and sis.

You must live in an area near the mountains. The residents there do have a greater risk of landslides but you are blessed by the cooler and cleaner mountain air. Here, the houses in the peak area are usually not occupied but rented for tourists from outside the city, especially Jakarta. It could takes hours, especially on weekends, to get to the mountains even though the distance is not so far from the city center.

Was predicted on spaceweathernews.com (Taiwan general area). I used to consider daily its good scientific data.

Nothing to get shook up about. It appears it was 192 miles away, not 1988 miles. All is good here on the Oregon Coast.>:D<

PORTLAND, Ore. — A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck at 8:02 a.m. on Thursday, about 192 miles off the southern Oregon coast, west of Coos Bay, according to the U.S. Geological Service.

The National Tsunami Warning Center reports that no tsunami is expected.

The quake was about 7.5 miles deep, according to the USGS.
