NW Scheduler/Publisher - Updates, Support, and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I had the same problem as many of you, before starting I made the backup and it saved my life.
The only thing I would suggest to the programmers, that the updates were proposed first to the administrators, because this time an elderly non-administrator, made the update before us and blocked everyone, luckily I had made the backup early in the morning, a big hug

another suggestion that would be useful to many brothers is this, already in the previous version you could self-assign territories, but only the elders or the servants or the pioneers or all the publishers could do it, I would suggest that only the servants of the territories could do it, because if at the moment you do not have a pc in front of you at least you can assign it to yourself make a screen sht and send the assignment to the brother, then when you return home you can assign the territory to the brother. what do you think? p.s. I hope that the google translator works well 😃

I updated my NWP last night and it did not connect to the new server, I had to use the Older Server. I was told this morning that the Administrator has to update NWS and select the new Region before NWP will connect to the new Region. I restared NWP and it connected without needing to use the Cong Number and Pin.

However, the meeting schedule is in NWP but the Publisher and Public Ministry sections are now blank. The Administrator is working on it and hopefully he just needs to grant access to those areas again.

I did notice that I cannot scroll the Duties or Assignments in NWP. I am able to scroll the other sections.

It's possible to get in, but it is a pain. On Publisher, you need to clear data (or uninstall and reinstall the app). Then in Scheduler, under "App", "App Persons" you can "reset PIN". The new pin should work.

Hopefully a better fix is soon implemented, cos I don't fancy doing that 180 times...

No need to. The pin is still valid.

Same here once I updated and followed Step 1 there were no issues for us that I see anyway.

NWS is very helpful software, but this kind of nonsense is unacceptable.  In every software project I ever worked on in the past 40 years,  I always added routines that made data migration automatic. Of course sometimes there are bugs, but most can be caught with even a modicum of QA, which thanks to M$ is now non-existent as QA has shifted to the users.

Asking hundreds of thousands of users to do the above steps is ridiculous.  Yes servers change, yes new features sometimes break things...but this happens way too often.

It's easy enough to write a lookup routine that gets the region from the cong id.   <END OF RANT>

I sent an email to all in NWS on the info to reconnect. Of the 20 or so of those that reconnected three could not reconnect without an error message, so I reset their PIN and that worked. I am not sure if that is operator error or not but if I have to reset 10-15 PINs it isn't ideal but doable.

This is going to be an exercise of frustration as the vast majority of admins and publishers are technical Luddites. Of the 4 admins no one is tech savvy because they don't know the difference between a password and a pin and don't know where to look for the pin.

I do sort of share the sentiment of the posted rant because we are an organization of preachers that drink the milk of the nations, perhaps the milk was past sell by date :lol1:

Given NWS history of catastrophic updates, this is an ABSOLUTE MUST.  No one gets the update prompt until an admin updates first.  Only downside is that NWS would lose their QA dept because most of us would be afraid to upgrade

I dont know if NWS monitors this thread...but if you do...listen up and pay attention to this one!

Anyone know what the function 'Show Territory Working Notes is?

Open NWS

Go to the Territories section

Go to Territory Settings

Under the section NW Publisher App is an option Show Territory Working Notes.

I will experiment at midnight as I always do. I'm just wondering if it's what I'm hoping.

Anyone enable this yet?

Anyone else notice that when sending the brothers and sisters their app invitations, the column showing the progress of the emails is blank? The publishers all said they still received them but kinda weird none-the-less.image.png.5002bb8448fe4a4f168ccea58202ea9b.png

Yes, but emails were still sent. I tested by just sending to a few first. It does send to the correct recipients.

NWP has a minor update, 3.7.1 that fixed this issue.

I fixed my NWP with the "old server" option at 6am this morning.  It worked fine.

I updated NW Scheduler and it works OK.

Then I updated NWP (twice) since then.  Nothing on the NWP works.

I had our 'tech elder' who is in charge of this app help.  We put in all the IDs and Pins and we can get the NWP to recognize the congregation (and my wife's information) but it will not accept my identity.

We will work on it tomorrow after the meeting.

The instructions requires the NWS admin to set the sharing region.  "App > Change app region".  Once I did this, the publishers were able to connect but some had to enter the "person pin" again.

It’s a big update

it a small group of full time servants who build/ update / support

1

the admin needs to handle it on his side

2

end user needs to update

3

end user needs to add cong id and PIN

4

works immediately in user side

5

Was still missing groups under publishers… but most don’t see that anyway
