I understand our faithful old KH Conf app, has been given steroids and we have KH Conf + (plus) which includes video, and imagine that in time it may replace zoom where we are still paying for those accounts.   In some far places like Zambia, this has already happened, my son tells me that it has replaced zoom in his congregation there.

Anyone else aware of any move in this direction in other areas?

Since when did the Japan branch bought KHConf? Or was it always been owned by the Japan branch?

I know KHConf for a really long time, but we do not use it because it was not needed and now, we have zoom.

Even before we went to Zoom, KHconf had video available.  But many halls did not have cameras.

As I recall, they used to give us a choice.  If we used video, but the publisher only wanted audio (via landline phone), they would strip the audio stream from the video feed and send that audio to the publisher over the phone.

I heard the same thing, but I've never seen a hall uses the video prior to the pandemic, but audio is on my old congregation.

I hope they would further increase the scale of such tool that way we won't rely on 3rd party in the future, but I dont think it would be easy, and I think the Pennsylvania, nor the New York corporation would never take over in overseeing this provision or else they would potentially lose their nonprofit status.

Can you explain why? I don't understand these legal things.
KHCONF already is a JW thing, right? It's my understanding that it's a bit like JWLibrary

It is my understanding that we own KHConf - that it became our property shortly before the pandemic. There had been information sent to the congregations as to placement of a static camera, how to allow commenting and migration to KHConf if, like our congregation, you were using another application/service/method.

Prior to this, KHConf was not compatible with our local phone company. Then, when KHConf transited to VOIP and the Organization took ownership of it, we changed to it as we were encouraged to do by the branch. Just before COVID, I reviewed the information we received with the view to adding the camera and other features but that was all put on hold when in-person meeting stopped.

We still have KHConf for those who cannot use Zoom. Those who use it in our KH connect through the KHConf Roku app. Our Zoom feed is streamed to the Roku app so those on Roku are not able to comment.

No, huh?

they’re earning a profit from it. Unless there is a law that I miss that you can earn profit while being a non profit.

From my understanding that we have to pay for the KHConf service unless I was hallucinating when I heard those information.

Well for starters it’s possible for a non profit to own a for profit company.

secondly, a non profit is actually allowed to make a profit, contrary to misconceptions. it just can’t freely distribute the surplus to directors or presidents. It cannot have shareholders.
