In this situations were no one is in control of the nature, it is normal to react late or unwisely. Also a lack of communication is always involve in this situations.  It is very difficult to act wisely . It is human nature to fail.... Don´t you think so? Jeremiah 10:23

I think that is human psyche, and the attitude that "it's not going to impact me" is why people usually are slack in preparing for such events.

Sadly, it also affects many brothers as well. Our local area is mostly subjected to floods and bushfires. As my wife and I live on rural acreage and we are always watching weather, whereby I use various apps and website data monitoring, we usually prepare ourselves for any possible weather events.

After we started going back to in-person meetings, our local area had a huge rain event, my wife and I were concerned about the possibility that some locals rivers and creeks would be affected by flooding. So I rang one of the elders early in the morning of the MWM about this issue about moving the meeting to be Zoom, which he thought it may not be necessary but he would ring the rest of the BoE to get their thoughts. It was not until only a about an hour before the meeting started that they sent a text message to everyone where they decided to move the MWM to Zoom only.

We wondered why they were slow in getting the message out. Apparently, (this was revealled some weeks later from one of the elders) some didn't believe we would be under such a threat, but it was just after lunch where we copped a lot of rain in town and it started to flood the low lying streets they started to re-assess the situation. It was then they rang the CO to see if they were allowed to move the meeting to be on Zoom. It was later at the elder's meeting on the next CO visit, he asked who on the body first suggested it and at what time, when they replied it was not anyone on the BoE, but only a congregation member very early that morning. He then strongly counselled them where they should have been acted earlier in contacting him and not leaving it to the last minute. Whenever there is any possibilty of life endangerment is at stake, it is always better to be prepared and make arrangements where the situation may not eventuate, than to be leaving it to the last minute.

So now, whenever we have any extreme weather event, I usually get asked for my assessment of the situation. This was mainly because after that particular MWM (where we did moved it to Zoom), many of the brothers were hearing on the news (always being over exagerrated) of a possible major flooding of the town, as many were expecting that the river would go over the levee banks. So many were predicting what the river height would be, which I then gave my prediction of what the river height would be (which was lower than theirs, as they were overhyped from news reports), but also I estimated about what time that the river would be at its peak, and also how long that peak would last. So at the next following meeting (which was back in-person), I was very much right on the mark on all 3 predictions. Thus, I got the honour of being the local weather forecaster. But that is only because I had the tools available to me and always constantly observing what is going on locally.

A year's rain in one day. Wow.

This is incredibly sad to see and read about. Around a fortnight ago we had almost a year’s rain in five hours. The worst flash flooding since 1901. All of the brothers and sisters in the 5 congregations were accounted for.  20 homes of the friends were destroyed, including my sister in law’s home. She had 3 feet of water in her living room.

Many took time off work to tear out drywall, clean up,etc . By the end of the week in excess of 300 brothers and sisters had traveled to us from 300 miles away. I was asked to coordinate rooming and housing which was quite a privilege yet quite a task as my phone broke down the very day i volunteered! 🙄 The support from the local circuit was a superb display of Jehovah’s loyal love. We’ve completed Phase 1 of the repair project and now are working with the DRC.

On a local television channel, they were interviewing several victims. Among them was a group of elderly people who shared their hardships due to the flooding and complained that they felt abandoned, that no one had come to help them, except for a group they didn’t know, a company called something like “J W something…”
