JWTalk Tie Club: How Strained Will YOUR Neck Get After a Day in the Ministry?

Recommended Posts

This subject probably concerns more brothers as I have hardly sisters wearing ties at meetings :blushing:

I'm not into trends as regards clothing or the latest fashion per se but during the past few years I've become quite strict that the ties I wear to the meetings fit in nicely with the suit I'm wearing. What about you others, any interest in ties? What's your favourite colour?

Or are you breaking norm of the day being a bow-tie guy? Actually, I think that on one of these new DVDs considering history of the organization Br. Abrahamson wears a bow-tie but otherwise don't really see that often.

One colour silk ties are THE BESTTT!!111 but often also more expensive so usually I end up getting cheap and not-very-long-lasting polyester ties  By now, though, I've got quite a good colour variety so haven't bought any new ones for a while. But anything with white dots on black background are to be despised :hammer:

Probably one of these three would be nice to have next--although I don't think I'll end up getting any them seeing they are so expensive:

..but NOT one of these two

My husband hates wasting time rushing to tie ties in a morning and doesn't particularly like the part round the neck on warm days, so when he can get clip-on ties he buys them.http://www.meechs.co.uk/acatalog/ClipOnTies.html

A friend was made redundant from the traffic/parking wardens and gave him a selection of their, no longer needed, 'Police issue' black clip-on ties (for safety, if a nasty person pulls on them they just come off and not throttle the officer - handy on the Ministry!).

A few years ago we were at an auction of stock from an old Men's Outfitter's store and from the cellar there was a large box from the 1950's containing colourful striped and checked and single colour plastic ties on elastic(to go around the neck). They came with a poster advertising the fact they were shown on TV in a Paris fashion in the 1950's; that they were easy to clean and resisted spills and stains. They came in boy and men's sizes and the men's sizes were only 'half a crown'=2 shillings and sixpence, our Old English currency before 1971 = 12 1/2 pence in modern English money.

We had fun selling these plastic ties at Antique Fairs to tourists who were seen hiking round the Lake District fells and valleys with them on over their T-shirts! The laugh was that on sunny days the plastic ties warmed up and curled and cork-screwed and looked really funny!(No wonder they hadn't sold back in the 1950's!:?) It was quite a comic trend here that summer!::o

I recently bought my son a tie he is 3yrs. The tie is already made up and to get it to sit around his shirt. you pull the smaller part of the tie. It is a zipper sown into the tie. Forgive me guys I am not on mens terminology there. LOL. But my son loves wearing the tie.

I think you are showing signs of being prejudiced. Perhaps you should try to wear a bow tie for a week to get over your problem.

There is no excuse to wear a bow tie. Ever. They are horrible and every time I see one it makes me want to head the other direction. No offense :)

There are two Brothers in my circuit who love to wear bow ties. One gives talks at assemblies. How would you deal with that? :perplexed:

That's true. This happened to me with high heel shoes.

Some years ago I just couldn't bear sisters wearing them but after I bought one pair, then another pair :) and tried it myself ... I just like it.

...absolute rubbish...

My daughters buy my ties ... usually when they see something on sale. I have retired several older ones.

Also, we have two brothers in our Hall who wear bow-ties. Not always, but they both had them on today. One of the brothers is about 45-50 years old and the other is in his 80's and used to serve as a CO - he still does fill-in CO work when needed.

On a side note, I would not wear the tie(s) at the OP that are red/green since they look like Christmas ties to me.
