I took this photo today ...  Dandenong Rangers

Kookaburra

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28–42 cm in length. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call.

The brothers from Australia post such incredible pictures. In the new system I'll go.

Come now!  It's really not too far, just across the Pacific!  Then another 4,000 or so kms to Perth.  We'll have a blast!  We have quokkas!

Oh Lucy, please don't tempt me. Australia is somewhere I'd love to go. It's just my style. And that little creature is AMAZING! Are they naturally friendly?

Oh dear, now I have to go Google airline tickets to Australia!  :uhhuh:

With 140 species of land snakes and 10 of the most deadly snakes in the world, you couldn't pay my wife to go to Australia for any amount of money. She cannot stand to look at one even on the tv. It doesn't matter that there only 4 to 6 fatalities a year, its the thought that freaks her out.

We have a few garter snakes in our yard once in a while and the only way she will venture out in the yard is with a running lawn mower in front of her. One time I come running outside only to find her screaming bloody murder and at the same time chasing a garter snake with the lawn mower. I laughed my head off.

I live here for more then 20 years and done a LOT of bush-walking .camping in the wilderness and photography trips in the north top rainforest and never even once encountered a snake etc .... Apart from meeting cute wombats i have never seen dangerous creatures. Yes statistics are correct ... Fatalities are very rare ! And trust me I have been to a dangerous places ! Buy a ticket and visit this wonderful land !

And I've lived all my life in the cities, with concrete and paving, and I haven't seen any snakes either!!

Just come for the cuddly stuff - kangas, Koalas, and even the Tassie Devils are very soft (just watch, they bite). :taz:

Greg's right, the rats are rather big over here too

I got the truth in Perth ! Joondanna Cong !
