The bridge is known as the Magdeburg Water Bridge and provides a link between two German shipping canals, the Elbe-Havel canal and the Mittellandkanal.

 

It’s the longest and largest boat bridge in the world.

 

Connecting the two important canals has been envisioned since the early part of the last century and construction was actually begun in the 1930’s but was hindered by two world wars and then the Cold War that split Germany into the East and the West.

 

The bridge is a kilometer long and cost more than $500 million Euros.

 

Without the bridge commercial traffic was dependent on the Elbe river, which was not reliable throughout the year because of occasions of low water levels, and which sometimes stranded boats and barges.

That water bridge would've been considered a world wonder, before contemporary construction started making world wonders, everyday.

Ive never heard of our native Honey Possum, but arent they gorgeous.....

 

 

 

 

These tiny little creatures live on nectar and pollen, and weigh between 7 - 16 gr and consume about 7ml of nectar a day (equivalent to 50 litres of soft drink for a human).  This one is given a drink of nectar as a reward.  They have a long nose for digging and have no teeth (imagine how small their teeth would be if they had them).  Imagine what we're each going to discover in the new world.  Jehovahs creations are so diverse.   (Pictures were posted on the ABC News website this morning.)

 

Possums are protected in Oz but not in NZ where they are classed as a pest and hunted freely. 

 

On the tongue-in-cheek side, you'd have to skin a few thousand to make a decent hat out of this species eh?
