We bought our car new in September 2017 with 14 miles. Only took 6 years to get to 27,000 miles. The mechanic at the Ford dealership couldn't believe the mileage! He actually had a laugh with the service manager.

If anyone would like to see more of my photos I am on Instagram under "Gregglikestotakephotos"

It's a private account that only has witnesses on it. I only post positive and upbeat photos.

It did not have a hat, it had the gas tank behind the license plate...never post when you have a major headache!

Yes, the filler tube was located behind the license plate, the actual tank was often under the trunk or in front of the trunk space. Back then, the gas tank was made of metal and held up by two metal straps that hooked in brackets in front of the tank and had long bolts behind the tank that allowed it to be pulled up into place as they were tightened.

With the filler behind the license plate, you could easily fill up from either the left or the right, not like most cars today where they are either left or right fill.

Was this from the late 80's? Early 90's? I remember when I bought my first desktop it had 16 bits of Ram, I was told that was enough for years to come. Nope, ran out of Ram before a year.

I'm not sure, I just saw it in an article called "Things that aged well like milk". I did a search of the term, here is an interesting article posted in the Beast:

“The internet is just a fad” … Newsweek, Feb. 26, 1995

Interesting retro piece republished by the Daily Beast

Punch line: Famous quote from some dude in the patent office: “all things have already been invented”

Tom Watson, IBM CEO of long ago, predicted at most 6 computers would be bought.

And, in 1995, Newsweek stepped forward to declare the internet “nothing but a bunch of hype”.

Oops.

Excerpted from Newsweek: The Internet? Bah!, Feb 26, 1995

Hype alert: Why cyberspace isn’t, and will never be, nirvana

After two decades online, I’m perplexed. It’s not that I haven’t had a gas of a good time on the Internet. I’ve met great people and even caught a hacker or two.

But today, I’m uneasy about this most trendy and oversold community – the internet.

Visionaries see a future of telecommuting workers, interactive libraries and multimedia classrooms. They speak of electronic town meetings and virtual communities.

Baloney. Do our computer pundits lack all common sense?

The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.

How about electronic publishing? Try reading a book on a computer. At best, it’s an unpleasant chore: the myopic glow of a clunky computer replaces the friendly pages of a book. And you can’t tote that laptop to the beach.

Yet Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we’ll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Intenet.

Uh, sure.

The Internet is one big ocean of unedited data, without any pretense of completeness.

Lacking editors, reviewers or critics, the Internet has become a wasteland of unfiltered data.

Then there are those pushing computers into schools.

We’re told that multimedia will make schoolwork easy and fun. Students will happily learn from animated characters while taught by expertly tailored software. Who needs teachers when you’ve got computer-aided education?

Bah.

Can you recall even one educational filmstrip of decades past? I’ll bet you remember the two or three great teachers who made a difference in your life.

Then there’s cyberbusiness.

We’re promised instant catalog shopping — just point and click for great deals. We’ll order airline tickets over the network, make restaurant reservations and negotiate sales contracts. Stores will become obselete.

So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month?

Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet — which there isn’t — the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.

What’s missing from this electronic wonderland?

Human contact.

Discount the fawning techno-burble about virtual communities.

Computers and networks isolate us from one another.

A network chat line is a limp substitute for meeting friends over coffee.

A poor substitute it is, this virtual reality where frustration is legion and where — in the holy names of Education and Progress — important aspects of human interactions are relentlessly devalued.

Wow, wonder how embarrassed that author(s) is today. Wonder what they think of the new threat- AI?

My grand girl said she was asking a question of an AI, one that wasn't supposed to be answered. She said she got worried because it answered her. She said there are some apps that are strangely intrusive. I have no idea, deliberately ignorant of too much tech, as I won't download something that gets too personal as well as keeping a paper over the camera on my computer. I've also refused to use my smart TV. Scary world.

I had just moved back to Olympia. I was visiting the library, and I was the first patron in the doors. One of the librarians came up and asked if I would like to be the first person to "surf the internet". I asked, "what should I look for?" I didn't know what I was doing or looking for, but thing was for sure, it was not a fad. That was early 1995 either February or March.

Wow, can you believe it was so long ago? Life has screamed by huh? My dad died the next year at 57 years old. Crazy.

I'm glad you posted a copy of that newsprint, brings it all back. TY Gregg.

Today, I revisited the spot where I snapped the canopy shot.  I wanted to see if the leaves had turned to Fall colors yet.  They are starting to.

Jehovah’s creation amazes me❣️From very little, to more noticeable details reflect His wisdom and love towards us 🥰🙏🏼
How delightful to observe this glasswing butterfly 🦋 Its transparent wings allows it to camouflage without extensive coloration. In Spanish- speaking regions like mine, it may also be referred to as “espejitos”, meaning little mirrors.

We drove down to California from Washington State to visit mom.  We made sure we took time to stop and see Jehovah's creations at Sequoia National Park.  The General Sherman tree is jaw dropping huge.  It was also 200 years old when Jesus was born!  PXL_20230915_214815014.thumb.jpg.b3360572e02e98bec0c372ce347c177e.jpgPXL_20230915_212731093.MP-EDIT.thumb.jpg.13c2ac0d3a6c6b5fc4f5af917e78e913.jpgIMG202309151433162.thumb.jpg.e8902780b59e07abab48957b71ada509.jpg

Y'all have a shortage of brothers?  We've discussed this a few times....getting close to needing the same.  Right now, it's almost 100% sisters on the sound & PC.  We've had a few meetings recently with only about 25 (out of 67) in person.  😲

A local Cong just had their CO visit and they had 19 sisters on the AV/Mics and he directed the elders to take them all off 😳 not sure how they’re coping since.
