a song that reminds you of the truth?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a worldly song that reminds them of the truth or the way they feel about the truth? I know when I was first coming into the truth Leona Lewis's song keep bleeding love song expressed how I felt about the truth. Part of the song says, "But something happened for the very first time with you

My heart melted to the ground, found something trueAnd everyone's looking 'round, thinking I'm going crazy

But I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you. They try to pull me away but they don't know the truth".

I know my mom says when she learned the truth she felt "thanks to the keeper of the stars" expressed how she felt.

Anyone else got a song?

Well, I was raised around the truth, so it's a little different for me. But there are lines in songs that remind me of aspects of being in the truth:

Sara Bareilles....(Say What you want to say)......."why don't you tell them the truth?"........(about witnessing)

And from what I understand, "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells (1969) may have been inspired by the "Truth" book that was widely used in Bible studies in the 70's (much like the Bible Teach book of today)

....Those who seek Jehovah can understand EVERYTHING......Proverbs 28:5. (The possibilities are endless!)

I often reflected on this song, each day is a gift, we never know when it will be our last.  I've lost a lot of family quite young and so the words of this song make me think about the urgency of service to Jehovah.  With family members dying at 37, 38, 42 and 52.....and I'm 40, it really highlights for me the need to do what I can and try not to worry about the what ifs.  I'm a lot more at peace with how I'm serving Jehovah today than I've ever been.

"If Today Was Your Last Day"

                                                                       Nickelback

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are

So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

Crystal Blue Persuasian - don't know who it is sung by but if you listen to the lyric's it sounds like he read the 1968 Truth Book!

As a post above notes, it was Tommy James and the Shondells.

Look over yonder what do you see

The sun is a-risin' most definitely

A new day is comin' people are changin'

Ain't it beautiful crystal blue persuasion

Better get ready gonna see the light

Love, love is the answer and that's all right

So don't you give up now so easy to find

Just look to your soul and open your mind

Crystal blue persuasion, mm-hmm

It's a new vibration

Crystal blue persuasion, crystal blue persuasion

Maybe tomorrow when He looks down

Every green field and every town

All of his children every nation

There'll be peace and good brotherhood

Crystal blue persuasion

In the UK and Ireland there is a old program called Dads Army......the opening theme tune is almost the exact riff for one of our songs, I can't sing it without thinking of this programme !! Sorry I'm a little of subject :)

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

WONDERLAND by Nils Lofgren:

Where the boys and girls like to dance on the way to school,

And even the pretty girls think that being nice is cool.

Ain't no locks upon the door, ain't no country fighting no war,

Ain't no boss or president here, and no judge to keep score.

No one ever has to raise a hand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

And compassion is something people understand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

Where there ain't no government telling you who to fight,

And you don't get singled out every time your wrong or right.

Ain't no hungry people to feed, ain't no homeless children in need.

Ain't no prejudice in anyone's heart, and no crime in the streets.

No one ever has to raise a hand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

And compassion is something people understand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

In a wonder, in a wonderland.

Where there ain't no fairytale Hollywood,

People messing with your head.

You never got to hurt anybody, or yourself to get ahead.

No one ever has to raise a hand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

And compassion is something people understand in a wonder,

In a wonderland.

In a wonder, in a wonderland.

Little girl, in a wonderland.

In a wonderland.

It's a beautiful place to live your life,

It's a beautiful place to call your home.

Ain't no government telling you who to fight,

Yes, in a wonderland.

Momentary 80's flashback here, always wondered about the story behind these lyrics. . .

"When the Children Cry" by White Lion

Little child, dry your crying eyes

How can I explain

The fear you feel inside

'Cause you were born

Into this evil world

Where man is killing man

And no one knows just why

What have we become

Just look what we have done

All that we destroyed

You must build again

When the children cry

Let them know we tried

'Cause when the children sing

Then the new world begins

Little child, you must show the way

To a better day

For all the young

'Cause you were born

For the world to see

That we all can live

With love and peace

No more presidents

And all the wars will end

One united world under God

When the children cry

Let them know we tried

'Cause when the children sing

Then the new world begins

What have we become

Just look what we have done

All that we destroyed

You must build again

When the children cry

Let them know we tried

'Cause when the children fight

Let them know it ain't right

When the children pray

Let them know the way

'Cause when the children sing

Then the new world begins

Definitely Dear God by a young Nick Jonas, when he was around 9 or 10. I think he had a part in writing the song too, really impressive.

My favorite part is:

"Everybody's searching for an easy solution, yeah

They can't see beyond the selfish world they're living in

Words of love get lost in all the confusion, yes they do"

A bit off topic, but it's also interesting to compare Nick's voice and music from 10+ years ago to a song he just released a few days ago:

It's sad he decided to go the typical relationship songs route when he could write more thoughtful songs like he did when he was younger.

  • 3 weeks later...

"No hatred (come go with me)

Will be tolerated (come go with me)

Peace and love (come go with me)

Flow between the races (come go with me)"

"No disaster (come go with me)

Will ever enter there (come go with me)

No wars (come go with me) uh huh

Would ever be declared (come go with me)

No economical exploitation

And no political domination"

There is a very famous singer (songwriter) in France, called Jean Jacques Goldman

He sang a song called "Elle attend" (She is waiting)

Elle attend que le monde change (She is waiting for this world to change)
Elle attend que changent les temps (She is waiting for the time to change)
Elle attend que ce monde étrange (She is waiting for this strange world)
Se perde et que tournent les vents (to change and for the winds to turn)
Inexorablement, elle attend (Inexorably, she is waiting)

Elle attend que l'horizon bouge (She is waiting for the horizon to move)
Elle attend que changent les gens (She is waiting for the people to change)
Elle attend comme un coup de foudre (She is waiting, like a thunderbolt)
Le règne des anges innocents (the reign of the innocent angels)
Inexorablement, elle attend (Inexorably, she is waiting)

Elle attend que la grande roue tourne (She is waiting for the big wheel to turn)
Tournent les aiguilles du temps (for the hands of time to turn)
Elle attend sans se résoudre (She is waiting without yielding)
En frottant ses couverts en argent (rubbing her silver cutlery)
Inexorablement, elle attend (Inexorably, she is waiting)

Et ellle regarde des images (And she look at pictures)
Et lit des histoires d'avant (and read stories of the past)
D'honneur et de grands équipages (of honour and great crews)
Où les bons sont habillés de blanc (where the good are wearing white)
ET elle s'invente des voyages (and she invents for herself journeys)
Entre un fauteuil et un divan (between a sofa and a chair)
D'eau de rose et de passion sage (of rose water and wise passion)
Aussi purs que ces vieux romans (as pure as these olds novels)
Aussi grand que celui qu'elle attend (as great as the one she is waiting for)

Well, his wife was a JW... that's why.
