A lot of stange things are happening of late. First a message comes up on the JW Org site as to its use. Then I hear that I can't use equipd of my I pad. Now I find JW podcaster 2 on my andriod machines has stopped working. I seems all the tools I use for personal study are being cut offf.

It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step :- Jer10:23.

No problems here, everything seems to be working fine.

Micah 4:5 ......"we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever."

John 15:13 "No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his life in behalf of his friends."

Equipd still works fine for me. In fact, it updated and added magazines a few days ago. JWReader still works. Yesterday, it added the new simplified study mag for November.

I need some clarification: Here are some of the terms of use from the JW.ORG website. Is It saying that I cannot post a link to JW.ORG like on Facebook to encourage non witness family members and friends to look at the site and that specific material that is posted?

I didn't see anywhere in that that posting a link to the site is wrong. Can you just quote the portion that makes you feel that way?

The very first one that says

  • Post Content from this website on the Internet (any website, file-sharing site, or social network);

What does this actually mean?

Hmmm.

Use this website for any purposes related to marketing.

Does that last point relate to using jw.org on items like badges or umbrellas etc etc etc?

Just in case someone takes it as a statement, I am NOT saying this IS what it is saying. Nor am I saying anything against anybody who happens to see badges, buttons umbrellas with jw.org on them as fine.

Just querying it as I cannot think of any other reason for this being added to the terms and conditions.

Posting a link would be fine.  Just don't post the actual information "the content" elsewhere. We are encouraged to get people to the website. That way they can read much more that may interest them. Not just bits and pieces we find interesting.

To me .... it means the companies that make these - can't advertise that they do. You can still buy them.

They wouldn't be asking you not to post the URL (JW.org) as that's how people get to the official web site for Jehovah's Witnesses, and it's what the campaign was all about.

You can't post "content," as in articles, on other sites. Quoting a few sentences with a link back to the original article on JW.org, for the purpose of Witnessing, would be OK.

I guess the main gist of all this is to make sure that members of the public, and we ourselves, look to ONE source for information.

Providing a badge or umbrella with JW.org written on it, free of charge, would not be a commercial use of the web site. Unless you also had your business name associated with the item.

So, "Hire me to clean your house and I'll give you a free tea-towel with JW.org on it," would be commercial use even though you are giving the item away free of charge.

Selling an app that is promoted as being able to access any part of the JW.org site, would be commercial use.

That's the way I see it.

Aww very good. I have a tendency to be overly technical and I usually pick everything apart to try and understand every detail. As my brain doesn't work as well as it used to, now when I pick things apart it is hard to put it all back together where it makes sense to me. lol

Thanks again for the explanations, helps my pea brain out a lot.

Funny, my brain works just the opposite - don't give me too many details, everything shuts down. LOL!

Well just think of Google .. It goes to every website and catalogs every subject and topic on that website .. And here is the important part .. It provides a link back to that site even though some of the material was taken from the website to be used as a reference.

Without a search engine the JW.org website would only get to a few million people.. Now billions can access it .. And on many subjects WOL comes back as the number one hit.

The brothers understand that very well ....

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

Moving this to the appropriate section.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Well I notice a similarity to last year when we couldn't get bibles. I heard all sorts of conjecture. But I didn't quess that there would be a whole new translation.

Well we are getting close to the AGM again and I wonder whats going on. I'll just have to wait and see.

But that doesn't mean I'm not itching to find out.

Links manually shared with others are not "content", and will never be banned, nor is it even legal to attempt to do so.

Short excerpts and images, whether printed or posted online, fall under the fair use doctrine, as long as the content doesn't make up a "substantial" part of the original work, and it's not used for commercial purposes.

The focus of the TOS isn't Witnesses who just want to share research with one another, as links or as quotes, the key is that content may not be used "for a commercial purpose or for money".

The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the need to be reasonable, and there's no indication that the slave is acting any different, so please let's not become pharisees by implying that everyone else should follow an overly harsh interpretation of the rules.

I'll tell you what's on my wish list:  An easier to use, hardcore interface for Watchtower Library 2014.  I'll be honest, Proverbs nailed it when describing seeking wisdom, because digging through the current WTL interface can be as difficult as searching for silver. I'm very grateful to have it, but hidden treasures indeed.  Here's hoping!
