Not much heavy rain during this summer but in the spring time we have had some heavy falls ... No flooding though

Almost made it to Madagascar ... almost...ha ha ha

Come to think of it: if you traveled from Australia all the way to Seychelles...then yes: Madagascar was really, but really next door! If you ever go, let me know and will give you tips based on what you would like to do and visit. Used to work in a Tour Operator there and it sometimes come in handy :)

Looking at this: no wonder Australia is on most people's wishlist of countries they would like to go to...

Australia is a big country of contrasts ...you name it ! we got it ! The only drawback is the distance. I just love Victorian forests and rainforests ...

When i walk amongst tall trees, ancient plant life and lush ferns I often think about passing time and how Jehovah created them long time ago.

There sure are many places to explore. Variaty is never ending. I recently bought a 4WD explorers book from ARB. & got a Newbie 4WD I am looking forward to checking out some tracks around the outterskirts of Sydney. Just a short radius from my area. I will post some pics when we've done our adventure. :D

Phillip Island is a beautiful place with fantastic wildlife...

Nearby, the great hills of Gippsland are a wonder to drive around too.

Over the weekend I went out to Boggabilla, it's not a place you go for scenery but one of those places where the worst of the local indigenous population have made it a blot on the landscape.

The first pic is of the remains of the remains... a local gravesite with the headstone nearest the camera recording a man's death in 1895. Next is a big old fig tree which has had to have branches and foliage relieve to allow the safe passage of powerlines.

Note here that the fence to the left is not atypical of the area. Because of the local problems there are many who've 'fortified' their places.

Down by the river... it's the border between New South Wales and Queensland and this river level is retained by a weir about 10kms downstream at Goondiwindi. It's said that the river here was often just a string of waterholes, only flowing after significant rain, there's been plenty of rain lately and that's why it's so muddy.

I don't know why the flying fox wings are hanging on the barbed wire in the foreground, probably local children 'at play'.

Finally, it's the kind of place where there's generally a lot of disused cars in the yard, but this one was a bit different...

...as Columbo would attest.

On Sunday I made it back to our one-day assembly at Goondiwindi.

  • 2 weeks later...

If this is Greece, then maybe this picture is of the Areopagus or Mars’ Hill?

Yes, this is the Acropolis seen from the Areopagus. More or less the same view Paul must have had while he pronounced his famous talk to the Athenians.

I was looking for an illustration I remember in one of our publications with exactly that same view, but I was unable to find it. Paul is talking to the men assembled there, and he's pointing with his right hand to the Acropolis, probably mentioning the altar to an unknown god.

I don't understand that, Anna...

However, I'd be happy to visit your congregation in Ireland next year if you convince me there's something special to see there.

Now, I ask you to understand me posting this next picture. It's quite near to home, only 15 or 20kms away. It's not the picture I would have wanted to take, but first look at this:

post-4283-0-82840200-1424644387_thumb.jp

I had finished work for the day and decided that, seeing as I was only 10kms or so from the home of one of our brother's I would go and visit he and his wife briefly.

That whole district carries names of places famous from the first World War battlefields like Amiens, Bapaume, Pozieres etc. And through Passchendale there is a pine forest. In the middle of an S-bend in the road I was treated to the gorgeous sight of this sliver of moon with the attendant star in a sky turning dark blue, framed as it was at that point by the vee-shaped valley of pine trees.

I didn't stop there to photograph it, I should have, but I did stop a little further up the road, where the pine forest ends, and got this picture.

The stars are always spectacular around here, we're all well away from big towns and their light pollution, but you can't photograph them. Sometimes I see the Milky Way spread across from one horizon to the other.
