Who here does NOT like Bacon?

Recommended Posts

I like side Bacon ( so called American ), I like decent Canadian bacon - not the thin stuff that is passed off as Canadian bacon. :eat:  I like decent peameal bacon too - - coated with cornmeal - it like real Canadian bacon has suffered from paying more for less ( thinner ).

Consciousness, that annoying time between naps!

What is bacon?

Bacon is a meat product from a pig and usually cured using large quantities of salt, either in a brine (salt and water), in a dry packing (totally covered with dry salt) or smoked (hanging the meat in a smoke-house); the result is bacon ready for frying or chopped and used in all kinds of savoury dishes (scones, muffins, scrambled with eggs, omlettes etc).   Absolutely delicious hot in a sandwich too.   Unfortunately, the bacon we get here in Australia is usually streaky (thin streaks of meat surrounded by lots of fat) so we bacon lovers have to shop around to get decent slices of meaty bacon.   Wonderful when its a bit overcooked and crunchy.

I guess you're going to have to work on that...

But I have to agree with you about sausages. I'm reminded of the desk calendar quotation I read back a lot of years ago...

"All that is needed for the enjoyment of sausages is confidence!" I can't raise that confidence, and to make matters worse, these days more and more sausages are corrupted with spices and junk.

Not so bacon, of course...

Bacon is delicious cooked with some greens - turnip, mustard, kale, cabbage or collard, or a combination of your choice -

with steaming buttered corn bread on the side to sop up the juice.  One of the few things that tastes great and is good for you.

The only way I would eat brussels sprouts is with either bacon or ham cooked with it.  MMMM.

Or, Canadian ham -- tastes like a cross between bacon and ham - yummy, ay?
