Destroying Great Mosque of al-Nuri 'is Isis declaring defeat'

Iraqi PM denounces levelling of Mosul building where Islamic State leader declared a caliphate three years ago

This mosque was the place where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the caliphate years ago.

It was always one of islam's most venerated sites.

I can only imagine the shock that must have gone through the muslim community for this egoistic and desperate "scorched earth" type of act.

But IS accused the US-led coalition of destroying the mosque, which was also of great symbolic importance to both sides of the conflict.

An interesting little step towards the destruction of Babylon the Great? In any case, this will cause the river Euphrates to dry up a little more.

I laughed when I read this bit:

The cause of the tilt was not fully known. According to local tradition, the minaret bowed to the Prophet Muhammad as he passed overhead while ascending to heaven, ignoring the fact that he died centuries before it was built.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.
