There has been an eerie sky today where I live. Very tropical looking tint out there. It's been reported around a few locations.

Yes there was a 'red' sun today here in Essex in the UK today! The news was saying that it was due to hurricane Ophelia dragging up air & dust from Southern Europe & Africa thus causing this eerie red glow in the air! It's now very windy here so goodness knows how bad it is in Ireland right now where the storm is!

I know a couple who are SKE graduates who are serving in Ireland & have asked their parents if all is ok- they said it's bad but are safe....scary when it's close to home!!

It reminds me of the skies here on the coast during hurricane season, like something dangerous is stirring. Please, please be safe friends in the UK. Before it gets too bad, please prepare a bag or backpack full of essentials (Water, Food, Clothes, First Aid Kit) if you have time. Jehovah loves you and is with you, please know your in our thoughts and prayers. Sending virtual hugs. :(

Very unusual weather today compliments of Ophelia.  At 9.30am it went very dark and stayed that way for about an hour. It felt very surreal.  By the afternoon we had beautiful sunshine.  Fortunately very little rain here and not too much wind.  Hope our brothers in Ireland are okay.

The mushroom coloured sky and orange sun was mostly because of the forest fires in Portugal. The winds were so fast whipping up the smoke that the smoke didn't have time to dissipate before it was swept up to the whole of Britain. Sand from the seas and Sahara are quite a regular phenomena here arter storms, but the sky and sun were different. People and reporters were calling it an Apolcaliptic sky!

People on facebook sites were comparing their experiences. Everyone from London to Aberdeen were seeing the weird sky and sun. Also, because it was from fires, it stunk of acrid smoke. I didn't realise at first and was going out into our garden and looking up at the chimneys to see if anyone's was on fire until I saw on BBC news and facebook that we were all smelling it in the air before the big winds struck and we were told to stay in.

Trees came down on all the roads during the storm here in North West UK, so roads were held up while they were sawn up and dragged away. Roof flew off a local fuel filling station in town and schools were closed. There were storm surges further south of us. Football staduim roof flew off in the town further south of us closing their roads. It measured over 90 mph at St Bees Head - our point nearest/facing Ireland off West Coast UK. Damaged our guttering, but it is still up, not much roof damage, but we have sturdy brick/slate houses that have withstood storms of 122 mph a few years ago.

It was very noisy with the howling winds and Police were busy at the roads in the county, so robbers took advantage and broke through the wall in our local Aldi store and stole the cash machine from the wall leaving a heap of rubble and a massive hole in the side of the building that had to be boarded up the following day.
