I just talked to a brother still over there. He said that a few months ago there was a rumor that people would need this card to buy gas, but still that hasn't happened (thankfully). He also said that most brothers don't have it, although I did not get the impression from him that this would be out of the question. He is not even 100% sure what all it is supposed to be used for, but we both agree that it's probably nothing good.

I'd be very careful about downplaying it so casually, because the book of Revelation speaks very seriously of the issue. I mean, what if the fine print on the document signed in obtaining such a card includes swearing loyalty to Mr. Maduro or his party? What if it is directly linked to a political profile? We can not partake in an economic system that would expect this of us.

It would be wise to keep an open mind about how prophecies will play out in the end because we do not know all the details right now. The mark of the secretary's inkhorn is certainly about thought and action. But Satan's system certainly likes physical marks such as the Swastika, the hammer and sickle, etc. The common, current economic climate doesn't care about your "thought and action", so you can not have the mark of the beast according to our current understanding and still buy or work without any problems.

My thought is the card could be programmed to not function unless the owner was on the voter rolls, or voted, or was in approved standing by the government. 

 

Like you said, a Witness could be arrested or detained or under surveillance and their card deactivated unless they swear allegiance to the government.  A literal fulfillment of Revelation. They could not buy or sell unless their card funct.  Their card would not function unless they support the government, which is the mark of the Beast.

I share the same thought as both of you Chocobro and Shawnster...

Manipulation is big and everywhere now and we must be careful and cautious not to fall in the trap, maintaining our spiritual eyes wide open, able to discern anything that may appear innocent or just a trifle to the world, but that could jeopardize our loyalty to Jehovah in the end.

Social credit is a reality in China.  It's a way to manipulate the population to step in line with government ideals, and can reward or punish its citizens.

Guess who helped set up the Venezuelan system?

 

We already have extensive tracking in our own Western societies, which is useful for marketing atm, but could potentially be really "useful" in doing something similar to what China does.  The scripture may just be literal.  I personally think it's just a matter of time, and we'll be The Matrix 🤣.
