When I was still a teenager, I used to have a diary. There´s hardly a page without some lines of a songtext in it. Sometimes I had a reason for writing it down, sometimes I was just listening to that song while writing and liked the text very much, etc.

Are there lyrics you like very much (for whatever reason) - lyrics that move you, make you laugh, make you thoughtful, remind you of someone or something?

Please write them down here - I leave it up to you if you´d like to add an explanation or not 😉

Oh, there are so many...

“Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!”

🎵“I have listened to Jesus in these troublesome days,

He lights up my path.

As I hear and obey.”

These lyrics touched me deeply when I first heard them.   I cried.  They left me with such a feeling of hopelessness for mankind.

Then, I was privileged to learn THE TRUTH about Jehovah's Kingdom, and now, they are lyrics about the futility of existing in a world

with Satan as its ruler.  A reminder of why man was never hard-wired to rule himself independent of his Loving Creator. ❤️

Quote

In the year 2525

(Zager and Evans)

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find-

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your side
You legs got nothing to do
Some machine's doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your sons, pick your daughters too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
Whoa-oh-oh

In the year 7510
If God's a-coming, he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
“Guess it's time for the judgement day!”

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say, “I'm pleased, where man has been”
Or tear it down and start again
Whoa-oh-oh

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering, if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old Earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Whoa-oh-oh

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through

But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

So many reasons to be grateful our God is Jehovah!!!!❤️:D

"...Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train..."

I simply love that song 😍

She's taking her time making up the reasons
To justify all the hurt inside, guess she knows
From the smiles and the look in their eyes
Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one, they're saying

Mama never loved her much and
Daddy never keeps in touch
That's why she shies away from human affection, but
Somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot to come

And she'll say to him (she's saying)

I would fly you to the moon and back
If you'll be, if you'll be my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we belong
So would you be my baby?

She can't remember a time when she felt needed
If love was red then she was color-blind
All her friends, they've been tried for treason
And crimes that were never defined

She's saying, love is like a barren place
And reaching out for human faith is
Is like a journey I just don't have a map for
So baby gonna take a dive and push the shift to overdrive
Send a signal that she's hanging all her hopes on the stars

What a pleasant dream (just saying)

I would fly you to the moon and back
If you'll be, if you'll be my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we belong
So would you be my baby?

Mama never loved her much and daddy never keeps in touch
That's why she shies away from human affection
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot to come

And she'll say to him (just saying)

I would fly you to the moon and back
If you'll be, if you'll be my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we belong
So would you be my baby?

I would fly you to the moon and back
If you'll be, if you'll be my baby
I've got a ticket for a world where we belong
So would you be my baby?

This song always calms me and somehow makes me feel like I would "float":

Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never shared

No one dared

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know"

"Silence like a cancer grows

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said

"The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls

And whispered in the sounds of silence"

New York Mining Disaster 1941
BeeGees (though I prefer the Chumbawamba version)

In the event of something happening to me,
There is something I would like you all to see.
It's just a photograph of someone that I knew.
Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

I keep straining my ears to hear a sound.
Maybe someone is digging underground,
Or have they given up and all gone home to bed,
Thinking those who once existed must be dead.
Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

In the event of something happening to me,
There is something I would like you all to see.
It's just a photograph of someone that I knew.
Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

"I've seen you twice, in a short time
Only a week since we started
It seems to me, for every time
I'm getting more open-hearted

I was an impossible case
No-one ever could reach me
But I think I can see in your face
There's a lot you can teach me
So I wanna know

What's the name of the game?
Does it mean anything to you?
What's the name of the game?
Can you feel it the way I do?
Tell me please, 'cause I have to know
I'm a bashful child, beginning to grow

And you make me talk
And you make me feel
And you make me show
What I'm trying to conceal
If I trust in you, would you let me down?
Would you laugh at me, if I said I care for you?
Could you feel the same way too?
I wanna know

The name of the game..."

"I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio

You gave them all those old-time stars
Through wars of worlds invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly

Radio

So, don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio, radio

All we hear is "Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga"
All we hear is "Radio ga ga
"Radio blah blah"
Radio, what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you

We watch the shows, we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years

Let's hope you never leave, old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So, stick around 'cause we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio, radio

All we hear is "Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga"
All we hear is "Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga"

All we hear is "Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah"
Radio, what's new?
Someone still loves you

Radio ga ga
Radio ga ga
Radio ga ga

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio, radio"

Aerosmith:  "We All Fall Down"

When your heart is breakin'
When your faith has been shaken
When the road you're takin'
Takes you nowhere at all

When it all, seems to all go wrong
Remember, nobody can always be strong
We all fall down...

I will catch you, never let you go
I won't let you, go through it alone
So don't feel left out, we all fall down
We all fall down

When your dreams are shattered
When you feel broken and battered
When every step on the ladder
Takes you nowhere but down

And you lose ground, like you can't hold on
Remember, nobody can always be strong

We all fall down...

I will catch you, never let you go
I won't let you, go through it alone
So don't feel left out, we all fall.
I will lift you, high above the rain
I'll be with you, we all feel the pain
So don't feel left out, we all fall down
We all fall down

Everyone breaks
You'll get hurt sometimes, in this life
You fly so high, you crash and burn sometimes
And I want you to know, you are not alone

We all fall down

I will catch you, never let you go
I won't let you, go through it alone
So don't feel left out, we all fall.
I will lift you, high above the rain
I'll be with you, we all feel the pain
So don't feel left out, we all fall down
We all fall.

I will catch you.
I wont' let you.
So don't feel left out, we all fall down
We all fall down

Luis Fonsi: "Respira"

- love that song -

Yo sé cuanto cansa sufrir, descanse mi amor

There's somethin' wrong with the world today
I don't know what it is
Something's wrong with our eyes
We're seein' things in a different way
And God knows it ain't his
It sure ain't no surprise
...
There's somethin' wrong with the world today
The light bulb's gettin dim
There's meltdown in the sky
If you can judge a wise man
By the color of his skin
Then mister you're a better man than I

Phil Collins: No son of mine

Well, the key to my survival
Was never in much doubt
The question was how I could keep sane
Trying to find a way out
Things were never easy for me
Peace of mind was hard to find
And I needed a place where I could hide
Somewhere I could call mine

I didn't think much about it
'Til it started happening all the time
Soon I was living with the fear everyday
Of what might happen that night
I couldn't stand to hear the crying
Of my mother, and I remember when
I swore that, that would be the last they'd see of me
And I never went home again

They say time is a healer
And now my wounds are not the same
I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what he'd say

He sat me down to talk to me
He looked me straight in the eyes
He said:
You're no son, no son of mine
You're no son, no son of mine
You walked out, you left us behind
And you're no son, no son of mine

Oh, his words how they hurt me, I'll never forget
And as the time, it went by, I lived to regret

You're no son, no son of mine
But where should I go, and what should I do
You're no son, no son of mine
But I came here for help, I came here for you

Well the years they passed so slowly
I thought about him everyday
What would I do if we passed on the street
Would I keep running away
In and out of hiding places
Soon I'd have to face the facts
We'd have to sit down and talk it over
And that would mean going back

They say time is a healer
And now my wounds are not the same
I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what he'd say

He sat me down to talk to me
He looked me straight in the eyes
He said:
You're no son, no son of mine
You're no son, no son of mine
When you walked out, you left us behind
And you're no son, no son of mine

Oh, his words how they hurt me, I'll never forget it
And as the time, it went by, I lived to regret it

You're no son, no son of mine
But where should I go, and what should I do
You're no son, no son of mine
But I came here for help, I was looking for you

Γιώργος Νταλάρας: "Η Φαντασία"

H fantasia by George Dalaras

You're not to blame...
Blame it on my imagination
The imagination that formed you the way it did,
that mocked me for years in believing that you'd open up my closed heart

But what is that dream
That always rings true
and doesn't leave a cut in most hearts
or a wound in the chest?

You're not to blame...
Blame it on my imagination
And that's the reason that you shouldn't cry if I suddenly leave
It's more fitting for me to cry
for the lost ideals of my heart

But what is that dream
That always rings true
and doesn't leave a cut in most hearts
or a wound in the chest?

"Ocean"
by Darren Hayes

Even though I know you're gone
The memory lingers on
I see your footsteps on a sandy beach
The waves have been crashing on, on

You know that danger goes where emotion flows,
I wish sometimes I'd never known love
It's dangerous
The way I can't move on
Lost in emotion

Only an ocean could know
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Thinking of you, my love
I wish I could drown out emotion, 'till only the ocean knows

Walking down the boulevard
The water still calls your name
A thousand tides may rise and fall
But darling I feel the same, oh

You said it's dangerous to love so deeply
I never cared, I felt completely
It's dangerous
The waves crash on the shore
But never repeating

Only an ocean could know
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Thinking of you, my love
I wish I could drown out emotion, 'till only the ocean knows

Wash me away
Carry my heart on an ocean
Love has forsaken, been taken to somebody else
I wish I could drown my emotions, 'till only the ocean knows

And I still hear your song (I can hear it, I can hear it)
It's in the call of the ocean (Call of the ocean, weight of emotion)
It has been here for so long (Can't you feel it, can't you feel it)

Only an ocean could know
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Thinking of you, my love
I wish I could drown out emotion, 'till only the ocean knows

Wash me away
Carry my heart on an ocean
Love has forsaken, been taken to somebody else
I wish I could drown my emotions, 'till only an ocean knows (Only an ocean could know)

Only an ocean could know
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Thinking of you, my love
I wish I could drown out emotion, 'till only the ocean knows

Wash me away

"I was so lucky"
Roxette

It's no secret I've been waiting
But I didn't expect this
Nothing will remain
Nothing stays the same
After you came
It's no secret I've been starving
I never felt anything for years
I sat up all night
Just to watch your smile
When you're sleeping
I was so lucky you came by
And turned a different corner
I could've been somewhere else
You could've passed by, could've passed by
Come on and sail the sea with me
Come on, let's go around the world
Maybe find a flat
Or a canyon house
For the season
I was so lucky you came by
And turned a different corner
It could've been someone else
You had in mind
I was so lucky you found me
My rags turned gold and silver
I could've been somewhere else
You could've passed by, could've passed by
What would you make of this, my baby?
The sun through the trees
Is there a better place to be?
I was so lucky you came by
And turned a different corner
It could have been someone else
You had in mind, oh my
I was so lucky you picked me
My trash turned to silver
Yea, I could have been somewhere else
You could've passed by, could'be passed by

This song was written back in the early 80's which paints the correct picture of the times.

Downtown LA - JJ Cale

Downtown L.A. is a depressing place
You can see young men with deep lines in their face
They could all be something if somebody cared
But nobody knows they're even down there

Old woman walking with a sack on her back
Picking up the garbage people put out back
Men down there trying to walk the line
Trading their soul for a bottle of wine

In the inner city it ain't no good
It's a long, long way from Hollywood
Bad kind of people got a hold of the street
They got something that the poor people need

At two in the morning they bust your head
Fat chance walking you'll end up dead
It's the law of the jungle with a gun and a knife
If you stay long enough, you lose your life

Man down there he couldn't be lying
He was sleeping in the street and he couldn't keep from crying
Said he'd been there for twenty one years
Through the bars and the brawls and the blues and the tears

Prop up the front the back falls down
All around the canyons of L.A. town
When he asked me for a dollar, I looked him in his face
Downtown L.A. is a depressing place

"Love alone"

Katelyn Tarver

I told you my heart's leaning towards you,
A little more than I knew, something was scaring you.
Is it too much or too fast or too forward?
Should I step back and pretend I don't feel this way?
Well I don't wanna tell a lie, I don't wanna have to hide.

It's on the line
I've waited for a sign,
I see it in your eyes,
I know you really feel the same.
I need to know if I should raise or fold,
My heart is stuck on hold,
I wanna know which way to go.
I can't love alone, I can't love alone.

I tried not to fall so far for you,
Now I can't get away from anything you say.
You make me feel nervous and stupid
Whenever I tell you I'm tired of playing games.
I don't wanna tell a lie, I don't wanna have to hide.

It's on the line
I've waited for a sign,
I see it in your eyes,
I know you really feel the same.
I need to know if I should raise or fold,
My heart is stuck on hold,
I wanna know which way to go.
I can't love alone.

Oh, I can't stay here wonderin' if you want me.
If you don't take me, you should leave.

It's on the line
I've waited for a sign,
I see it in your eyes,
I know you really feel the same.
I need to know if I should raise or fold,
My heart is stuck on hold,
I wanna know which way to go.
I can't love alone,
I can't love alone,
I can't love alone.
