Yeah. I was wondering the same thing. Are these the locusts in Joel or the ones in Revelation? I'll have to very carefully study that Watchtower article!

Sorry brothers, I should have stated the Egyptian plague, from Exodus that Jehovah sent against Pharaoh and the Egyptians.  No prophecy on locust.  That prophecy was cleared up by Br. Splane.

Within the next year the UN Security Council has been warned a major famine will begin due to the combined threat of the Locusts , and the disruption that CoVID has wrought. A Famine the like of which this generation has yet to see.

I wonder if locusts can be ground up and used like a flour.

Locust are probably part of many diets without their knowledge. In the US a certain amount of bugs in flour is acceptable. If you leave flour undesturbed for months you may find it with common weavels crawling around. We found this out 2 years ago when gone for almost 4 months. A gas produced and not released by agitated flour helps to hatch the eggs.

Crickets and grasshoppers and cicadas are all quite tasty. Raw they have a vegetable flavor like green peas or beans. Slightly sweet. Sautéed grasshoppers ( Locusts ) have a flavor similar to shrimp or chicken ( in that range ). My only concern with locusts is that when they swarm they tend to eat anything and everything including some poisonous plants like Hemlock. My guess is that suck toxic vegetation could be transmitted through the locust.

Oh yeah! I remember our short stay in the Cincinnati area back in 1986-7 when the cicadas came out, just a constant screeching sound, they were everywhere! The Asian people love to eat them!

Desert locusts are already swarming in East Africa and now breeding in Iran and Pakistan and as well in Yemen.

 

Without action the locust population could grow 400 times larger by June 2020 and spread to new areas and disrupt food supply.

 

Is there a relationship between locusts and climate change?

 

During quiet periods known as recessions, desert locusts are usually restricted to semi arid and arid deserts of Africa, the Near East and South West Asia that receive less than 200 mm of rain annually. In normal conditions, locusts numbers decrease either by natural mortality or through migration.

 

However, the last five years have been hotter than any other since the industrial revolution and since 2009. Studies have linked a hotter climate to more damaging locusts swarms, leaving Africa disproportionately affected, 20 of the fastest warming countries globally are in Africa. Wet weather also favours multiplication of locusts. Widespread, above average rain that pounded the Horn of Africa from October to December 2019 were up to 400 per cent above normal rainfall amount. These abnormal rains were caused by the Indian Ocean Dipole, a phenomenon accentuated by climate change.

Actually its both, Rising temperatures amplifies the dipole and makes the Indian Ocean warmer and causing a change in the rainfall patterns. But your right about the current outbreak, it is rooted from heavy rains and has created ideal conditions for these locusts reproduction all over these countries. These locusts swarms will most likely get worst and spread further as the rainfall patterns get worst due to climate change.
