Either way, why does that number increase by one every time someone posts something? If they are just "comments," then where can we look at these comments?

"Posts" and "comments" refer to the same thing.

I am not sure of what that statistic includes. Some posts are merged, some are hidden, some are sent to the bin... Are status updates counted as posts? Or blog entries? I don't know, but all of that might explain the difference in numbers.

I posted a comment here and noted the number, then I posted one in Confidential, and it was the next sequential number, then I posted a comment in a different topic, and it was the next sequential number. So it appears that each comment is assigned a unique sequential number no matter it is posted in the forum. So the the unique number assigned to this post should indicate the total number of messages, until someone posts another comment somewhere in the forum...

EDIT: this is comment #1007934

We definitely have over 1,000,000 posts.

Dang! I missed the party!

I wonder who posted #1,000,000? :whistling:

It appears that #1,000,000 was posted in July this year. I haven't found it yet...:D

I thought that posts were the posts themselves like "A random thread of absolute randomness" would be a post, everything responding to it would be a comment, so no matter how many people respond to this post the post will always count as 1 and the comments multiply (At least last time i dealt heavily with forums thats how it was...but that was a while ago). However I do agree with Tortuga that there are posts like confidential ones and ones that havent been accepted, and possibly declined ones were also counted, that i cannot see

A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance.” These striking pink birds often gather in large, colorful groups, making the term particularly fitting.

I literally learned that at work this morning during a quick trivia game.

Do you know what a group of pandas are called?

I had to Google it

Quote

A group of pandas is called an embarrassment, wildexplained.com says. The site goes on to explain that there is very little scientific backing or origin of this name as it may have started and been popularized online

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2022/07/05/what-is-group-of-pandas-called/7728711001/

It also said - or a cupboard, or a bamboo. These names are often used to describe pandas because of their clumsy lifestyle, diet, and habits.

Sloths can hold their breath longer than dolphins. While dolphins can hold their breath for about 10 minutes, sloths can hold theirs for up to 40 minutes by slowing their heart rate.

I must not have evolved as much as sloths and dolphins. The most I can do is 2 minutes at absolute tops. :nope:

Since we're talking about animals and names. I wanna expose yall to a picture of congress (i originally was gonna do a whole murdrer/crow post, but figured that was too dark of humor for these forums)

Though it was believed a group of bamboons were considered a congress but that was a joke that got spread as fact

Global Water Distribution: Only about 2.5% of Earth’s water is freshwater, and just a small fraction (around 1%) of that is accessible for human use

I read this in a scifi book recently and it got me thinking about post Armageddon - believe it or not. I looked to see where there are large water reservoirs throughout the world - maybe as an idea for a book.

I found this site lists them - https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/major-aquifers/

And there is a VERY LARGE one in the US called the Ogallala Aquifer under several states, but sadly it too is drying up - mostly due to mismanagement (as you probably would have guessed).

I want to ramble off a couple of off-topic random questions for this random thread:

Did you know that nothing can be divided by 0? Or that you can’t rhyme anything with oranges?

If anyone can rhyme with orange, let’s see you try.
If anyone is tongue-twisted or confused, that’s the whole point of this exercise.

If not, then please, back to the topic, er topic(s).
