Fixed JW Library

Recommended Posts

Hi friends, I thought I'd share how I fixed JW Library on my iPhone.

Problem: After the latest update, the video thumbnails on the Home screen and the media graphics on the Media tab were not loading.

I did not want to uninstall-reinstall, so I thought I had to wait for the next update. But then after searching online to see if I can reinstall an app without uninstalling it, I found there is an "offload" route that does just that, and this solved my problem:

Reinstall the app

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Open the Settings app. Tap General, then tap iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage). Tap the affected app, then tap Offload app. Tap Offload app again. Wait a moment for the app to offload, then tap Reinstall App.

Did the notes and bookmarks transfer to the new upload?  Just curious.

I can confirm this works, too.  "Offloading" an app deletes the app itself but keeps all of your data associated with the app.  If you reinstall it from the App Store, all of your data is re-inserted as if it had never been uninstalled in the first place.

But you have to do it the "offloading" way within settings.  Do NOT uninstall the App from the home screen or app drawer.

Okay, that's for iPhone. But does the same thing work with the Windows app? (I'm not having any problems with; just wondering…)

I’m not sure about the offloading aspect, but you can always back up your JW app file & restore it once you reinstall the program. You do this by going to Personal Study, and then click the cloud icon with the arrow pointing upward.

Does this work for Android?  My media files which need to be updated won't update and it won't let me delete them either.  My JW Library is up-to-date.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't own any Android devices, so I would have to do research. I found this discussion which may help: Does Android offer the ability to offload apps to Google drive like iOS users can with iCloud? - Android Community

Hello friends,

I think I may have a similar problem but may need clarification.  I updated my JW Library app and discovered that all of my notes and highlights were gone. I have a backup from July 4, 2024 but I've made numerous notes for my Bible studies - as well as where they are all bookmarked! - since then.  Oddly, my history is still intact in the updated version. I created a backup of whatever is currently there, in hopes that the notes and highlights ARE there in the app, but just not visible.  Once in awhile, I update my iPhone JW Library to keep it up to date with the library on my iPad - it had the July 4, 2024 backup.  I created a backup of the iPhone's version anyway and downloaded the backup from what appears to now be a corrupted version of what is on my iPad after updating the app.  It shows the same thing - no highlight, no notes.  Our website says to wait until the next update when this problem occurs which looks like may be a month from now.  I think I'll use the July 4th backup on my iPhone until then.  Hopefully, the update will restore my highlights and notes.  Any thoughts, ideas, miraculous rescues??😁🙏

This is my first time hearing about this kind of issue.

Have you tried to call your local branch about this?

Just to clarify, the July 4 back up, is this backup working fine with the iPhone? Does it show all the data you needed up to July 4? If it is, you can import the backup on the iPhone and create a brand-new backup on that iPhone right after and try to use that new back up to your iPad.

No, not yet. The trouble shooting guide on the website
said to wait for the next update. Highlights & notes 'may' be restored. So I'm opting to work on my patience & pray (literally) that will work. I'm using an older iPad with the July 4 back up & will keep track of all additional notes in the event the update does restore my current library. Yes, the July 4 backup is working on my iPhone, as well & showing all the data up to July 4. If the update fails to restore my current library. I've learned an important lesson.#backup backup backup

Thank you!
