On October 28, 2021, the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation ruled that joint worship of Jehovah's Witnesses, their rites, and ceremonies do not constitute a crime under Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code, despite the liquidation of the religion’s legal entities.

In practice, the amendments pose new challenges for an investigator to initiate a criminal case, conduct a search, or detain a person simply because he or she professes the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses or meets with another at a worship service. Courts should no longer view it a crime to read the Bible or spiritual literature, talk about one's faith, or the like. It is also not a crime to convene fellow believers to peacefully practice Jehovah's Witnesses' religion together, to prepare and perform rituals such as water baptism.

Why do you think this news is not on the news section of jw.org?

Perhaps they are awaiting the outcome. The Russian authorities are not new to searching for reasons to bully and persecute us.

NEWS ALERT | Russian Court Declares Brother Dmitriy Barmakin Not Guilty

On November 22, 2021, the Pervorechenskiy District Court of Vladivostok in the Primorye Territory found Brother Dmitriy Barmakin not guilty and acquitted him of all criminal charges. This is the first time a Russian court has issued a not-guilty verdict for one of Jehovah’s Witnesses charged under Article 282.2(1) of Russia’s Criminal Code (regarding organizing the activities of an extremist organization). The court will remove the restrictions on his activities. The verdict will enter into force on December 3, 2021, if the prosecutor's office does not file an appeal.

Usually takes some time for these reports to filter through from the russian jw.org site. (Compare Pro.29:20).

Bro Barmakin's experience could be as a result of the Supreme Court direction. We have to wait and see how well this decision is reflected locally as prosecutors have often  appeared to have their own agenda.

It is an answer to many prayers, and also confirms the wisdom in following scriptural principles when handling opposition.
