President Bush Orders Flags Flown at Half Staff in Honor of Pope John Paul II
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Pursuant to President Trump’s Presidential Proclamation to lower the United States flag, I do hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia are to be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all local, state, and federal buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in respect to and memory of Reverend Billy Graham.

The president may also order that the flag be flown at half-staff to commemorate the death of other officials, former officials or foreign dignitaries, in addition to tragic events.

Just the opposite of what we would expect to see as a prelude to the attack on BTG. That could be discouraging if we were looking at world events as leading indicators to PS, GT & A. However, it may be a step toward them saying P&S together, so perhaps it is a step in the right direction. No matter what happens, we know it will happen on Jehovah's time lime.

AI Overview:

Russian Orthodoxy is the most prevalent form of Christianity in Russia.

But our brothers are being in jail in Russia.   So I don't know why this would cause discouragement. It's just another step to control people's beliefs.

Sorry if I offend anyone. Don't know the rules I guess on social media posts but I'm not looking right now either. Delete if you must. But this is the official White House Twitter page and personally I know it's probably a joke. But with no Pope and this guy saying his rules the world. Screams Constantine and Nebuchadnezzar in arrogance.

Because this appears to overturn 249 years of Constitutional separation of church and state. In contrast, Russia does not believe in such a separation. Even during the Soviet era of state atheism, the Russian Orthodox church was encouraged.

Granted, it only seems that it's been the last 25-30 years or so that there has been a noticeable separation of church and state in the US. From 1776 up through the Reagan era Jude-Christian beliefs and practices were honored and promoted in the US. Christmas is the only religious holiday that is also a federal holiday. Religion played a big part in establishing the Thanksgiving holiday. The 10 Commandments could be found decorating most US Court Houses. In the 50s the phrase "under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance. "In God We Trust" is printed on US paper currency.  Congress opens with prayer. Court witnesses are sworn in using the Bible and witnesses swear to God to tell the truth.

However, over the past 30 years or so efforts have been made to downplay such religious connections to the US government. Instead the separation of Church and State has been strongly emphasized as if that's always been the case to the extent we see in recent decades.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

I don't disagree with all this. But fail to see how it relates.

Relates to what? You mentioned people being discouraged by Trump's plans to commission on religious liberty. I assumed you meant people quoted in the news articles were discouraged, since I did not see anyone here saying they were discouraged by this news. I was responding to that and suggested why people in the US would be discouraged by this.

Honestly I think this is just one of those distractions people talk about. Grand pompous gestures and displays can easily distract from something else.

Trump can never be Pope.

I understand. I was commenting on this.  I didn't see any quotes from the news article though there may have been some.

We watched the movie "Conclave". It was pretty good and gave me an idea of what happens inside the walls.

Satan is the ruler of the world. I am certain he will have influence over the outcome, and it will be even crazier than we can imagine. He is the master at keeping everyone on edge and distracted.

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

Soon .....

Yeah, I thought this might be a drama that would go on for weeks.  But, apparently the longest conclaves in the 20th and 21st centuries lasted only 5 days each.  Pius X in 1903 and Pius XI in 1922.

Fun Fact ~ While Francis was from Argentina, in his entire reign as pope, he never visited Argentina. He did visit other South American nations.

The Pope is a dope

Who gives people false Hope.

For him many grope,

But are not aware of the scope

Of all his lies and deceit,

But yet for him they all weep.

And now that he is dead

The world is asking:

“Whom will reign in his stead?”

Lil’ do they know

That the King Jesus will soon strike a blow!

Yes, upon the wine press of the anger of God,

He will soon trod.

Armageddon shall come

And get rid of all these bums,

And Jehovah will crush Satan under His thumb!

Then God’s angels will rejoice,

And declare with a loud voice,

“No more Babylon the Great!

She has been reduced to a nonexistent state!”

God’s people will rise

With happiness in their eyes,

They raise their heads towards the sky,

As they get ready to enjoy their earthly prize.

Amen! So be it!

https://www.newsweek.com/catholic-church-excommunicate-priests-following-new-us-state-law-2069039

Washington State now has a 'Must Report' law with regards to Child Abuse cases. The Church has forbidden their Priests from doing so.

When Children are in danger, it overrides Doctor/Patient privilege, Spousal Privilege, Attorney/Client privilege, but not the Confessional. So there's the first showdown for the first American Pope to deal with. Likely won't be the last.
