JW Pressroom on Social Media

Also, you seem to imply that generating sympathy is a bad thing. I don't think it's a bad thing

In ancient Rome when Christians were being publicly burned alive and thrown to the lions in the circus, people began to admire more and more the courage of Christians in the face of death and wondered why their faith was so strong, and many eventually converted

Im not telling Jehovah anything.

Im am just telling logic, please think before you reply!

Sorry that is my humble opinion

Do you realize it is the GB that approved this?  It’s announced in the congregations.  By criticizing the action, you are essentially criticizing Jehovah as he and Jesus are directing the work.

the goal is to generate sympathy from jounalists?

An extremely strange thing to say!!

Why would we need sympathy??

Initially, I somewhat was thinking the same - "Sympathy"?? Then I looked up the word ... even though I felt pretty confident in the meaning and found this:

"Agreement with or support for an opinion or position."

"agreement, consonance, or accord"

So, for me, yes, I agree and can understand better @Jim Jam

Not too strange. Or ... is it? 😆

The more people know about Jehovah's people, the better

Agreed. I assume that some people may be reluctant to visit JW.org because it is a religious site, however the social media sites make some of the information available to them and perhaps they will eventually visit JW.org for more information.

Sympathy is a quality we as Christians should express.

Hebrew 10:34 says it’s okay to feel sympathy for Christian’s who are in prison. If we are to feel it, why we should prohibit others from feeling it?

I don’t understand. Please explain.

But think of it this way.

For many years, and currently, The Watchtower is the most widely circulated publication in the world.  This pairs nicely with the Best-Selling Book of all time ~ the Bible.

I think it would be fabulous if our social media accounts reached the top-tier.  If the brothers add a few hundred languages, we could even reach number one!!!!

Many people have 'heard' of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Image if the social media crowd took a moment to look at our content!!!!

I was watching the new JWB with the Gilead, and an experience from a woman in Asia (approx 40 mins in):

Quote

I saw the Bible. I felt like this book might have the answers for life. So I wanted to borrow it from them to read at home. But the religion teacher said I couldn’t take it home…  “My phone probably has the Bible online for free to read, right?” So I typed “Bible” in Google, and I clicked the first link. I scrolled down and saw it said: “Study the Bible free. Free Bible study.” Later, I found out that the site was jw.org.

Notice she first used Google to eventually access our website and was learning things, before she even knew she was on JW.org !

So to those doubting this pilot program: let’s never forget how many only find our website using this “secular” web portal / search engine (Google). And let’s also remember that many people don’t even use search engines anymore, they simply receive links through various alternative “portals” like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, etc.

certainly we wouldn’t be bothered to find out someone used Google to reach our website. Let’s not be bothered if they use social portals to reach it too.

edit: almost missed another important point. Transcript: “so I joined social media groups that discussed changing religions.” She did that before using Google. Really drives the point home!

In Bible times, Paul went where people naturally gathered.

The marketplace (Acts 17:17)
The Areopagus..the main forum for new ideas (Acts 17:19–22)

Today, for millions especially younger ones the “marketplace” is the popular social networking programs.

As a concept, using platforms like TikTok or Instagram is no different from using printing presses, films, radio, or sound cars in the past. Jehovah’s people have always used the most effective tools available to put the good news in front of as many eyes and ears as possible.

Today, the average teenager doesn’t read tracts or answer the door but they do scroll….. not only younger ones..that have developed powerful thumbs.

So it’s only logical that short, dignified, Bible‑centered content can be a powerful modern vehicle to reach hearts around the world in all cultures. The sky is not falling.. but the good news just has another vehicle.

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

You must have hit your free limit. I was able to read the entire article.  I could X out of the pay window.

I've never heard of that site before; I couldn't have reached a limit. 🤔 I'll try again

Then what do you think is the purpose of these posts?

Just in case you missed the description Jason here it is…

Sympathetic to the way Jehovahs Witnesses are treated in some countries then yes I agree with you, however, as it says this is the pressroom and it to raise awareness… and as the latest post there demonstrates it’s showing exactly who we are that we could be your doctor, teacher etc.

The purpose is definitely not to seek sympathy in the way that most view sympathy!!

Just a concern about TikTok because there are a lot of fake JW Pressroom accounts.

If you see or hear of any of our brothers and sisters following the wrong account, especially on TikTok, please kindly let them know the correct one: jw_pressroom. If they want to, they can also let others know, since one of the fake accounts has already gained a concerningly large number of followers.

Since JW Pressroom is a social media account, it is naturally designed for its posts and the account itself to be shared unless we are specifically instructed otherwise. We can share the correct account on our own social media accounts and help remind our fellow brothers and sisters which account is official.

They should also unfollow the fake accounts because those accounts could later be changed into opposer accounts and start spreading apostate content. It can be like bait, making people think it is the real account at first and then showing its true nature later.

Of course, you do not have to do this if you do not want to, but it is a good way to help make sure everyone is following the correct account.

Awareness of human rights violations and to provide an accurate representation of Jehovah's Witnesses to the media. The media can then use our posts as a source of accurate information. No sympathy or emotion necessary.
