Allright All You Brothers, Let's Get Honest...

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, I have been struggling to manage this bar/grill while my husband is recuperating from total knee replacement.  This weekend I hired another bartender to try and lessen my load.  I just hired Diane (which I am soo happy with thus far) and thought one more would give me the time to focus more and food and hopefully start trying to turn this around to a place that sells more food which just happens to sell alcoholic beverages instead of the other way around.

This young lady is STUNNINGLY beautiful!  She has long black hair and striking blue eyes.  A figure that would not your socks off so to speak.  The nicest thing about her is she is soft spoken, does not look hard like she has been around the block a time or two and when she speaks INTELLIGENT words flow through her perfect lips.  She does not dress provocative but the look is totally sexy.  She gives off vibes if you know what I mean.  Anyway, Diane and I both interviewed her because I wanted a second opinion and Diane has worked in bars all her adult life.  When I asked Diane what she thought about her, she said "Ummm, I don't know. I guess we could see how she works out."  I told my husband on the phone about what Diane said.  I had NOT told him yet how pretty the young lady was.  Rick's reply?  "Oh, she must be prettier than Diane."  What?

Anyway, yesterday rolls around and I had to run to Sam's Club because our cash register broke and the money was locked inside.  I left capable Diane behind to figure out how to open the register, take care of the bar and try to make change with the limited funds that were outside of the register.  Bree (the new chick) was to be there anytime.  When I came back I walked in to find Diane and Bree standing together behind the bar and EIGHT GROWN MEN all standing at the counter with their elbows on the bar all leaning over and trying to talk to Bree all at the same time!  They were like little children.  "Hey, Bree"  "Hey, Bree"  ""Down here Bree"  I couldn't believe it. (shakes head)  I went behind the counter trying to carry this big box on my own--when any other time every man in there would have ran to the door and said ""Here, let me get that for you"  I am sure not ONE man even noticed I was barely able to carry this big box.  Diane saw me and ran from behind the bar shouting "Here, here--let me help you.  You should have told one of these men to go get it for you"  No one still notices.  I smiled at Diane and asked her how things have been going.  She signed and said "Well, they've been going"  then she says under her breath  "You would think it was the first time they have seen a woman"  It went like this all night.  One. Very.  Long.  Night.

What is it about a beautiful young woman that can make a grown (or is it groan) man act so stupid?  We had a table of 6 yong men who were completly ving for her attention.  Diane finally yelled at them  "Shut up for a minute and leave her alone!  I am trying to teach her a thing or two here"  It was completely silent for like 5 seconds that back to "Bree, Bree," When Bree walks the whole room shifts their focus to her every move.  Each one of the young guys gave her a minimun of a ten dollar tip on a 2.25 cent beer!

I called Rick after we closed.  It was like pulling teeth to get the men out the door, and told him what happened.  His reply?  'Well, it can only be good for business"

After closing Bree and I were cleaning up and talking and I learned she was out on her own at 16 to care for herself.  Her mother was a drug user in California where Bree was born and raised.  She has lived in Buffalo, New Your, Nashville, TN and now here going to school with her father.  I guess she keeps her terrific shape by working on a ranch several times a week as a ranch hand.  She teaches Tomahawk classes, (didn't know they existed), fishing classes, and has hauled hay and "bucked" hay for many seasons.  Did I say she was smart too?  She is.  Plus she is going to school.  The nice thing about last night was she did not seem to be affected by all the attention.  I am sure she is use to it buy now.

Back to my original thought,  From reading about David in the Bible, plus having heard a talk once where the speaker said David appearantly had a thing for the ladies, I am wondering is this what is running through YOUR head when you see a beautiful young woman?  Is there ever a time you can just look and admire someone that posses so much beauty without going into lala land?  I know I see beautiful women or handsome men and I can acknowledge that.  I even remember the feelings when I was in my teens.  But I never was all upon my elbows leaning over a counter like "pick me, pick me".  I can see equally handsome men but I really don't know why there can be "chemistry" with one and not the other.  I had that chemistry with my husband and it was a felling I have never felt since.  The kind that leaves you breathless, weak in the knees, and unable to concentrate.  That is what it looked like on the outside last night watching all these men respond to Bree.  They were not saying anything out of line, just their actions and the need for her exclusive attention.

Have you ever felt that chemistry?  I believe Dave did when he saw his wife standing lost on the street.

Our very attractive blues musician Harley Hamm, said during his set on Sunday that when he met his girlfriend of one year,  that when he saw her he nudged his friend and said "That is the woman I will brush all my teeth for, not just the two front ones".

So how many of you, sisters included will answer this truthfully?

Lol....well, of course I felt that with my husband to.When I saw him standing in the front of our Kingdom Hall for the first time, he was wearing a tweed jacket with brown leather patches on his elbows and dark brown corduroys and I thought he looked just like a member of Fleetwood Mac.Tall, skinny with lots of hair.I got in his little red 5 speed car for service that day,and just about everyday after that.

In fact that car is the reason we started holding hands because he was teaching me how to shift a Manuel transmission car so he'd put his hand on top of mine on the gear shift . ;-)

If wise king Solomon couldn't figure it out - who am I?

Prov 30:18 & 19

18 There are three things that have proved too wonderful for me, and four that I have not come to know: 19 the way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the heart of the sea and the way of an able-bodied man with a maiden.

OK ... honesty ...

When I see beautiful women, flowers, sunsets ... I just "have" to look. Do I get all mushy, NO. Do I appreciate the beauty ... YOU BET!

Now, consider the "rest of the story" as you related it ...

You have an establishment you would like to be recognized for it's food and a place where you can get a drink.

For now, it is still recognized as a BAR that serves food ...you had a beautiful, well built female serving drinks to men who came to a bar ... how did you expect them to act ...

After all, they were men in a bar having drinks served by a stunning beauty that even you admit was someone people would look at they acted like ....

I guess I just expected more out of them. :-)

This afternoon I saw a customer at the save-a-trip store next door.  I had not seen him for about 6 months because he is an electrician that travels all over the country.  He saw me pumping gas and he hollers at me and then comes over and goes "I heard you got a new bartender"--"Wow, when did you hear that?  She just started work like 12 hrs ago!"  He laughed and said  "What can I say?  We're all idiots and pigs"  He is a very nice man, he and his wife come in for a drink after work or to pick up something to take home to eat.  I just shook my head and laughed.  I guess it is just small town mentality and the word spread like wild fire.  You honestly would think she is the only girl in town.  And there are alot of pretty girls here!

I will have one soon.

The story gets better.  Diane, who is very capable and very funny, seems to be getting a little put out by all the attention that Bree is receiving.  Yesterday she wanted separate tips jars and did not want to split the tips.  I thought that was a big mistake but I thought let the girls work it out between them.  Tonight Diane made $23.00 in tips (they labeled their tips jars at Diane's insistence) and Bree made $53.00.  I think Diane should have gone with splitting the tips.  I know I would have.  There was a coffee shop in Culver City that was only opened from 6 am till 2pm --it was across the street from the hospital.  The 4 waitresses that worked there were all JW's and they all split the tips.  No one had a certain table, they waited on everybody.  No "that's your customer"  they all worked hard, and one would circle with the coffee pot and fill everyone's cups at the same time.  Much more efficient that way.  As people would come in,  whoever was not busy would escort them to a table and maybe someone else would take their order and still someone else deliver.  It worked WELL!  I think it's  called team work, work ethics, and not being  greedy.  Why can't everyone learn to do this?

(The girls only worked 4 hrs tonight  because my cousin called me and told me they were going to be taking my aunt off life support when her son arrives from LA tonight at midnight.  So we closed early to go say our last goodbyes to my aunt.)

Back to the funny part. Last night Bree told me that if there was anything she could do to help me out she would be happy to.  Jokingly I said, "yeah the mens toilet is running even though a new toilet kit was just installed"  About 30 minutes later she came back (in between serving drinks) and said she had removed the lid and fixed the float and readjusted the chain"  (this was after a man had installed a new kit I had purchased) and it was working fine now.  I said "Wow, you do plumbing too?"  She said yes and she had done some carpentry and a little minor electrical work--like changing outlets--nothing major. ;-)  I could see Diane looking all solemn and big eyed.  Well tonight,   Bree is being her very sweet self, Diane is watching her from the corner of the bar.  The man is asking Bree about our entertainment on Thursday night--open mic night, and Bree said our blues musician was fabulous--he very good Stevie Ray Vaughn impersonator who travels all over doing his act.  Then she said--I wish I could play my guitar as well as he does.  He told her "maybe you should jump up on stage and play with him."  I said "Yes, Bree why don't you bring your guitar and join in during the jam session"  She asked if I were sure it would be alright.  I encouraged her to do so because she said "singling and playing the guitar was her passion".  I told Diane--"did you hear that?  Bree can play the guitar".  Diane rolled her eyes and tossed her head back and said "Well of course she can!"  It was just completely hysterical to see the was that Diane responds to Bree.

Can I post her photo playing the guitar on our stage under the gallery --or is that open for everyone to see?  I will ask her permission first before I do anything.

Hey was this in chit chat when I made my comment? I didn't realize that. :-(

I try not to post personal things in chit chat.Just in private forums.Well, that's my new policy. :-)

PM a moderator if you need something deleted. If your reasons are sensible, it won't be a problem.

I did not want to post this in chit chat but I could not see where it would fit under the other categories. But I would live it in a private mode

Sorry. If it were up to me, I would have ALL the forums public, except for Comfort and Support. But whenever it comes up among those who are in charge I get out voted every time.

A rambling like this post doesn't fit in any other category, and thus it is "general discussion".

Can I post her photo playing the guitar on our stage under the gallery --or is that open for everyone to see?  I will ask her permission first before I do anything.

It's open for everyone to see in any publicly visible forum, and none of us have figured out a way around it yet.

I am thinking it might be possible to NOT show attachments to guests, but this would mean that you would have to attach the photo, but NOT click "Add to post" because then it becomes a link and all links are visible. I would need some free time to check on this though.

UT-OHHHH!  I maybe made a BIG mistake.  A sister just came in to see me and check on Rick's progress.  Bree was in here to get her schedule and fill out paper work for employment.  I introduced her to Bree as one of our new bartenders.  She was very polite to her as expected then said "Leslie, May I talk to you for a moment"--all the while nodding her head towards the kitchen.  We went in back and the first she thing she was "Are you stupid?"  --"what?" I asked.  "I would never hire anything that looked and moved like that to work with my husband!"  It left me scratching my head and wondering what I have done...

The sister finally nailed it who she looks like--Lynda Carter (wonder woman) or a very young, prettier Lynda Carter.,,

what about throwing it up in the members only photo gallery?

^ Awesome suggestion. Gallery has a "Member's Only" category where you can choose to show the photo to all registered members or just your "friends" here at JWTalk. The "Members Only" category is never visible to the public.

I don't know, but I think the fact that you didn't think anything of hiring her in the first place shows that you don't have anything to fear. If your husband had a tendency for the 'wandering eye' you would know it and your first instinct on seeing her would have told you "no way".

I have never worried about my husband.  We have had bartenders that were plain janes and some very sensuous ones.  My husband has stated to everyone of our customers in no uncertain terms that he would never consider trifling.  He said that he did not get married till he was 30 and all that was out of his system.  ""When you find a good woman and make a life together you can not ever see anyone taking her place.  We have too much history, have shared too many things.  That is irreplaceable."  He has had women try to "befriend" him and he says  "I don't need any friends.  I have my wife" (he was and still is a very handsome man--he looks on the rocker side and that appeals to alot of women)  He has told me before that he would never do anything that would hurt me--that even includes talking in an overly friendly manner to any woman.  He has never given me ANY reason to not trust him.  Women tell me all the time how lucky I am to have a husband that loves me so much.  They say that I am the only thing he talks about.  This includes are men and women patrons.  It never occured to me that it might be a problem to hire such a pretty young thing.  I admired her beauty and tried to focus on her good qualities--like intelligence and sweetness.

He would be crazy to get rid of you Leslie, you are an awesome person, and pretty funny too.
