Just a thought, not exactly off topic, but not a "place name" .....

We now have nearly 500 posts in this thread. We have gone through the alphabet several times. What I have started doing is to search the forum for a place name before I post it so I won't repeat one that has already been used

So far, I don't think we have repeated, but ........

Basingstoke.

A small country town in Hampshire, England. Beautiful countryside with rolling green hills.  One of the 3 so-called home counties where lots of wealthier people live and the cost of living is higher because of it.

There are 4 congregations there - 3 English and 1 Nepali.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

Douglas, Georgia, USA

Douglas is a city in Coffee County, Georgia, United States with a population of 11,589.

Douglas was founded in 1855 as the seat of the newly formed Coffee County - it was chartered as a town in 1895 and as a city in 1897.

It was named for Senator Stephen A. Douglas from Illinois, a renowned stump speaker who was the challenger to Abraham Lincoln in the presidential election of 1860.

In 1895, the railroad came to Douglas and the community began to boom. In 1909, the Georgia and Florida Railway located its offices in Douglas. During the 1920s and 1930s, Douglas was one of the major tobacco markets in the state. Much of this history is depicted in the Heritage Station Museum, located in the former Georgia and Florida Railway train station on Ward Street in downtown Douglas.

Douglas is located near the center of Coffee County 59 miles driving distance northeast of Valdosta, Georgia, 115 miles driving distance northwest of Jacksonville, Florida, and 201 miles driving distance southeast of Atlanta - and a 3 hour drive North of my house

There is one KH in Douglas. It is located on Ocilla Highway (GA Hwy 32 E). There are two Congregations sharing the Hall - one English, one Spanish. Our Congregation recently received a letter from Douglas because a former Brother from our Hall, who was D/F while a member of our Congregation, was reinstated

There are some nice pictures here.

Ocklawaha, Florida

Ocklawaha is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Florida. The community took its name from the nearby Ocklawaha River and is located between the Ocklawaha River and Lake Weir

In 1935, Ocklawaha was the scene of a shootout between federal agents and Barker-Karpis Gang member Fred Barker. The agents fired about 500 bullets into the house, with roughly 250 shots fired in return, according to the after-action report of Special Agent in Charge Earl "E.J." Connelley. The fight ended in the deaths of Fred Barker and his mother Kate "Ma" Barker. Each year, the Ocklawaha Chamber of Commerce puts on a reenactment of the event.

There is not a KH in Ocklawaha so the territory is covered by the congregations in nearby Bellview, Fl
