This is NOT a Beard thread .....

Recommended Posts

That is right, this thread has nothing to do with beards ..... it is about breads.

Here is the idea (and the "rules") for this thread:

Let's all express what kind of bread we really like - you know, like those soft yeast roll form Golden Corral, Croissants, Pita Bread, Pizza Dough, etc. - and why we like it.

Do:

Describe the bread you like and why

It can be savory or sweet (you know Cinnamon Rolls and Yeast Doughnuts are really bread)

It can be loaf, rolls, sliced, crust (like pizza), pita type, taco or burrito type, you name it ....

Do NOT:

Talk about the evils of some type of bread (like white bread, bread with white sugar, etc)

Express or try to "prove" the health benefits of any particular bread, grain, ingredient, etc.

Tell anyone that should not eat a certain bread or ingredient.

OK, with that said, it is OK if you like more than one type of bread, I know I do.

I like a really good yeast raised pizza dough. Not the "pan pizza" dough that some chains sell, but a nice, soft and chewy crust that is either tossed or pin rolled.

I also like the "Chicago" style pizza crust.

Now, let's here it for Bread!

Even if you are "abstaining" you can still share what type of bread you really, really like .... just because you are not eating it does not change what you "like" .....

Do cinnamon rolls count? I love me some cinnamon rolls but you gotta make sure they're still soft and have lots of cinnamon, I hate when they get over cooked or sit out too long and get hard.

I have to think so. It's a bread therefore it counts. And I like it.

How about sopapillas? Little mexican puffs with honey and cinnamon.  Wait, are we getting into pastries?  :o

My wife makes our bread (with a machine) and her fennel bread is wonderful. She makes caraway seed bread, sun-dried tomato and olive bread too. All delicious.

If we ever have to buy bread, we get a loaf from the nearby Polish shop - it is the closest to excellent Czech chleb that we can get here.

My all-time favourite is Czech šumava chleb.

Since it's a staple food, bread is intrinsic to much of the Bible.

Even at the outset it was used as an illustration that Adam and Eve "In the sweat of your faces you will eat bread..."

It was a gift from kings, a sign of hospitality or friendship, something to give up your birthright for and the key part of certain ancient sacrifices and festivals.

It was used to woo, an indication of wealth, a wage, and used in the outworking of prophecies.

It was the subject of miracles in both the old and new testaments, and symbolic of the greatest sacrifice ever.

A man can even be reduced to a loaf of bread, according to Pr 6:26!

a restaurant in OKC yrs ago i worked at called Applewoods

was known for their fried apple fritters (lightly dusted with powdered sugar)

seriously folks drove for many miles to dine at this place, mainly for the bread...

also we served whipped honey-butter with yeast rolls-

each roll weighed about .0002 oz

At that time those who fear Jehovah spoke with one another, each one with his companion,

and Jehovah kept paying attention and listening..." ~ Malachi 3:16

Lord luv a duck! I had just about convinced myself, that I really should quit making bread from scratch, and y'all get into the real stuff! I can put on weight so easy eating my yeast bread. Rolls, loaf, pizza crust, I make them all. I can recall my Mom making her huge blue enamel roasting pan full of dough, that looked almost foreign, as it would raise so high! Of course with 9 children bread making saved a bundle.

One of the sisters at the Hall gave me her bread machine recipe, and I use that almost exclusively anymore. Start to finish is about 4 hours. Haven't figured out why the yeasty smell is absent most of the time. Might be from the vinegar which is called for which says it's like sourdough. Not really, but it turns out beautifully, and kneading must be done with a very light hand. That works for me, as arthritis rears it's ugly head, if I get too ambitious.

But my most favorite raised dough end product is, and always will be a bakery made glazed doughnut. Used to buy one for lunch with my lunch money, while in high school.     :uhhuh:

I have a recipe I don't make very often as it's not for calorie watchers... It's a potato bread that I make into cinnamon buns and oh so decadent! I also love my Grandma's dinner roll recipes. Garlic bread from a sour dough homemade of course. The benefits ... A smile of approval

The homemade bread I make has ground flax, ground spelt, dried pulverized lentil sprouts, sunflower seeds and substitute wheat flour for 1 cup of white. Instead of adding butter I add my 'little gems of deliciousness' bacon grease! Oh yes I do! It's not a sandwich bread but one thick toasted piece with a fried egg and bacon it and you're ready to go for the whole morning.

Great, now I'm gonna have to make a loaf, I'm wiping drool off my chin.
