My pet peeve is that two of our elders leave in the winter

and head to warmer, sunnier climates where the need is greater,

leaving us short two elders, and, in effect,

turning our congregation into a need greater.  :D

My pet peeve is when sisters fold our invitations into small 1/2" size to slip in door frame.  They look like an accordian.  I've tried to mention it...but they revert back.  If I received that in my door...I wouldn't even look at it.

Our CO demonstrated that one can fold it once (from when it get it as a flat page). We then can fold it over once and one more time to if necessary get it in the door, but no accordian folding.

People who start their comments with "yes", or even "yeah".  For example:

Question: "What do we learn from .....?"

Answer: "yes, ......."

And one brother who always say "illustriation" instead of "illustration".

We have a sister who always starts every comment with 'Yes' and a brother who always begins every comment with, 'Right.' It's better than beginning every sentence with "Well,"

Not a pet peeve b/c mispronunciations don't bother me, but of course this thread was started as lighthearted. Many mispronounce Sanhedrin. The accent is on the first, not second syllable. I think people are more focused on pronunciation now, b/c the Watchtower Library gives us audio, and we are trying to learn it correctly. Golgotha also has the accent on the first syllable.

Many people have trouble with Deuteronomy. Here's a conversation I unwittingly was included into in a pioneer car group. I would never bring up corrections, but sister one always would. Sister two happened to pronunce it as deuteromony. Sister one to sister two: "You say deuteronomy wrong."

Sister two looks at me and questions,"How do you say it?"

                                                                        Me:Deuteronomy.

Sister two says to sister one: See, I say it just her.  (Technically is should be just like/as she, but I never correct grammar unless we are having a lighthearted theoretical conversation.)

People that pull up to a 4 way stop sign before you do and then don't take their turn, they wait for you to go and then they start moving the same time you do...

May I add those who bring drinks and slurp loudly?

I haven't seen that in the hall yet. Lots of people chewing gum but no slurpers...

Gum chewing in the Kingdom Hall.

A couple years ago we had a part in the service meeting about not chewing gum in the K.H. The following week was our CO visit And guess who was chewing gum during all meetings. Yep, the CO wife. I do hope they like Colorado. We all said our goodbye's yesterday.

Not a pet peeve, but this thread just brought to mind experiences when I was pioneering and one of the sisters (not pio) would pass pictures around the car group of her latest vacation and cruise, while I was counting pennies to see if I I could indulge myself in a 75 cent coffee. Another sister, in a group, said she spent $10,000 extra on pioneering for her one year, while she was collecting unemployment and her husband was supporting her.  Not that they did anything wrong, necessarily, but it could be a bit insensitive when others are scrimping to pioneer and/or stay in service to Jehovah. It also is discouraging for those in the car group with a goal toward pioneering to think they needed an extra 10 thou for one year pio. Yes, sometimes it is challenging to pioneer,or any other avenues of service, but it is a good idea to speak of the blessings of service when in a group, rather than the expense. I, for one, have to remind myself of that, when the group conversation takes a negative tone. Jehovah sees and appreciates our efforts, even our efforts to practice more of the counsel points, such as (one and two) in the BE book.  I hope that I am back on topic. I have no comment, at this time, for sentences that begin with, " Hopefully, (I, you, he, etc.).......... "   p.s. "Hopefully, my posts are not getting kicked off this thread."

when the group conversation takes a negative tone.

There was a pioneer sister that use to be in the same congregation and since she had a large van it was usually used as the pioneer mobile. Whenever a conversation would start turning negative or sour, she would look out the window and mention how pretty the trees were. Everyone in the group caught on to her hidden signal and would usually talk about trees for a few minutes until a different, positive, subject came up. She never counseled anyone so no one got upset, she just quietly and quickly changed the subject.

You mean color?

:uhhuh:

Colour is proper spelling. Reminds me of brother doing tour at Canada Branch a few years ago. He picked up on my mother-in-law's American accent.

"Sometimes we print in American, but that's not today. Normally we print in English, not in American" :D  He did this a couple of times :peace:(<img src=)'> (:P)

Both colour and color are correct depending on your location. In fact spell check corrects "colour" to "color" for me.  In the early 19th century Webster of dictionary fame was asked to create a specifically American and Superior english language. He chose words and spellings that were different from the accepted British terms thus creating American English. This can make communication interesting. I remember a classmate in college used to get bad grades for using his native and "un-american" spelling. I always found that harsh and decided to accept any spelling that was in a dictionary, anywhere.

< In fact spell check corrects "colour" to "color" for me.> That is because your computer knows you can't spell proper English, so gives you the simplified version, Called :yawning: American English :bouncing:

or as Rex Harrison said in My Fair Lady_ "Look at the Americans. They haven't spoken English in years!" :ecstatic::backflip::whistling::raspberry:
