Is time travel possible?

Recommended Posts

Even if I had a time machine I'm sure I'd still walk into a room and forget what I was doing...:(

How does Jehovah see history? Is he flowing through it (time), so to speak, as we do? Or is he outside of it (time), and is able to see it all at once..if he chooses.

For example, A person on the street watches a parade go by, and is limited by what he can see in his limited scope of things. He has to wait to see what will come next.

We know that Jehovah can know the beginning and the end of everything. So being outside of time he could have a different view....perhaps like a birds eye view of all future events.

Einstein said, time exist so that everything doesn’t happen all at once.

food for thought. :coffee:

I'd want to go back in time so I could blast some electronic music for the Israelites dance parties, and claim myself inventor of the moonwalk and amaze them illusion dance.  Hopefully they would not stone me for witchcraft...

O, yes time travel is definitely  possible:

Step 1. Buy a donkey

Step 2. Name a donkey "Time Travel"

step 3. Take a seat on a donkey

step 4. Go...you time travel ...LOL :lol1:

Man was created as an intelligent creature with the desire to explore and understand :)

I thought the text today was appropriate for this topic:
Friday, January 26
Mankind cannot comprehend what happens under the sun. No matter how hard men try, they cannot comprehend it. Even if they claim that they are wise enough to know, they cannot really comprehend it.—Eccl. 8:17

What is past the end of the universe?
What was there before God created time?
We are finite beings trying to grasp infinity.
I think some things will always remind us of how incredibly small we are, yet how highly valued by the price paid...
Just a thought....

I'm trying to give a rational illustration to the complexity of time. Please think over the following, and add what you think might help ... (if you are on the same wavelength - and so inclined)

As God created time, he is not bound by it, so (unimaginably) everything happens at once. To illustrate:
Imagine a large very long painting on the wall. There is a thin wire line hovering just above the painting, from the very top of the frame to the bottom, slowly moving (from left to right).
Left is the past, right is the future.
From Gods vantage point, he can see both past and future. So when he sees Abraham in the past, (left if the line), he can also 'see' Abraham in the future (right if the line - a little way ahead).
We (all physical creation) are on the wall painting, and under the wire is the present. While God can change the past, he chooses not to. He abides by his own self-imposed limit. (eg. like not lying.)
He can also see present situations and look to the right and 'see' what they will become in the future. This could be translated to prophecy - OR - it could be twigged to avoid unwanted outcomes...

Well, that's as far as I got. Not sure how or where to put the angels... I think they are bound by time, as they 'desire to peer' into unfolding events. But this doesn't mean they cannot slip between the spirit realm and our physical universe. Travel is limited to the speed of light, but spiritual creatures travel outside this constraint. (I have another illustration for this....)
To round out the story, the painting rolls up way to the left (history), and another blank roll, far to the right, is continually feeding the painting.
If you have some suggestions on how to add a little to make it more interesting, please feel free to make comments. 2 things,
1. I do not wish to upset or offend anyone who has their own ideas on time.
2. This is my pet project, so please be constructive. It's the best way I can try and put into a finite box (or wall painting) an infinite reality. For whatever reason, my mind needs this to make sense of it all... TIA

I just read an article today where a man supposedly has a photo of LA underwater from the year 5000... ugh if this planet made it to the year 5000, I have no hope left! Lol

i seriously don’t believe anyone can time travel except Jehovah! Thank goodness for that! I imagine time as a long ribbon for Him, able to gently slide into any moment and he causes to become! Looking forward to paradise to learn more about it

He may be able to time travel, but he still doesn't know what each of us will do as far as our decisions in life.

And I feel time travel is one direction, to the Future. I don't care what Einstein says. Haha haha.

On the one hand I think the past becomes set in stone just as fast as the future is forming. On the other hand, what if time travel only exists in the present? I just changed my past and future by deleting the two short paragraphs i had previously written and not pressing submit.  You have become aware of the changes in the time line because I mentioned it but only i know the details of the changes.

Now if i had a third hand.....

The Creator of the Universe, Jehovah God, appears to have control over time. HE sets the laws regarding what happens in it.

Now if Time Travel was possible, don’t you think that the angels who rebelled against God, would have tried to use it to kill the Messiah or Christ?

The bible tells us that Jehovah is a “God of order”, so we would likely expect Him to limit access to the stream of time to beings that are more capable of dealing with it responsibly, like Himself for instance.

Time travel is a fun idea, until you realise after travelling back just 5 minutes, the earth has moved on and you are doomed to wander space forever more.

Yes as in the star trekky and other sci fi movie perceptions of time travel. I don't think physically we will ever time travel - because I agree with your reasoning on that, but Jehovah may choose to let us view the future like he did with John in the future ... if its in line with will. So yeah depends on your perception of TT.

I would think allowing someone to see a vision of the past might be nice.  For instance, a parent who dies shortly after the birth of their child and never got to watch the child grow up might be given a vision of the child growing up.

the closer you approach the speed of light the slower time travels. therefore at some point you can go fast enough that time will stand still.

It just takes an infinite amount of fuel to reach the speed of light.  My gas tank isn't large enough!

Time is not a separate dimension from space.  The earth rotates once, and it is called a day.  The earth revolves around the sun, and it is called a year.  The sun, moon, earth and every other object is moving through space constantly.  In order to go back in time, we would just have to move everything in the universe, every galaxy, every star, every planet, every moon, every asteroid, every comet, every particle, every molecule and every atom back to where it was before.  Time is a measure of the movement of objects. The past exists only as memory.

Doctor Who says, "first things first, but not necessarily in that order."

That's "duration". Not "time". If one want to be philosophical/metaphysical. :P

Technically, "moving" the whole universe would still be going towards the future. Because the moment "previous" to the "move" would be in the past of such "move" :D

Jehovah, the Master, the Ruler of time. All whom Jehovah creates, except himself, are subject to this source of calculation. Jehovah, beyond time.

According to the Bible, Jehovah has the ability to reproduce from memory anything he wants. Our lives before Jehovah are like a reel of film that can be unwound and viewed. Jehovah can even reproduce it so that we can see the entire history of both ours and others. If humans can do this with photographs and videos, it will not be difficult for Jehovah.

Do you think that anointed Christians, when they are resurrected to heavenly life, can ask Jehovah to show them how the universe and life were created? That's interesting, isn't it?

A fascinating subject. Recently I asked one of my grandsons if they had ever looked at their watch and seen the second hand appearing to stand still. It is just one of those strange things that appear to be a 'time pause'. This is called chronostasis and it is a perceptual distortion caused by R E M (rapid eye movements)

I suppose time travel is possible… just not in the way movies suggest. Jehovah gave John a vision of “the Lord’s day” (Rev. 1:10), and Paul describes a man “caught away to the third heaven” (2 Cor. 12:2)—experiences that seem like spiritual glimpses across time.

But physically? That’s a different matter. As others noted, Jesus “died once for all time” (Heb. 10:10), which makes rewinding time—and that moment—unthinkable. Jehovah, being “from time indefinite to time indefinite” (Ps. 90:2), isn’t bound by time, so to him, a prophecy isn’t a guess—it’s a declaration of what will be.

As for me, if I ever could travel through time, I’d go back just far enough to stop myself from saying that awkward thing I said five minutes ago. 😅

I was thinking more about how Jehovah lives outside of time. For us, time moves like a line—from yesterday, to today, to tomorrow. But for Jehovah, it’s different. He can see all of time—past, present, and future—like it’s happening right in front of Him. That’s how He can remember everything we’ve done and still focus on what we need right now.

It also means He never gets too busy. Even if millions of people are praying at once, He hears every word. He doesn’t forget the kind things we do or the times we stay faithful, even when it’s hard. (Hebrews 6:10)

Imagine if a teacher could help every student at the same time, answer all their questions, and remember everything about them without writing it down. That’s what Jehovah can do—but even better. It shows how much He cares about each of us, one by one.

So next time I pray, I’m going to remember—Jehovah isn’t too busy. He’s listening just to me.

Dunno what i like more: Time travel, the bufferfly effect, or the mandela effect ❤️

I would love to see the past without actually being there. It would be really cool to watch a historical moment as it happens, but not worry about affecting the past or future.

Just for snizzles and giggles, if you could change something in the past what would you change?

I would try to under hype the concern of Y2K and set internet technology back a few decades possibly
