Pioneer Book Download

Thanks, so how do we add a book/publication to the JW Library App for Apple/iOS?

Br. Neil, I am not quite sure of the question.  Are you asking how to get the file from "outside" your Ipad  "into" the device so it can attach itself to the JW Library app?

Files from our JW.ORG site can be selected as ...pdf, jwpub, rtf, and so on.  When you are on your Ipad, just go to the publication desired on our website and select download.  Choose "jwpub" and it will download onto your Ip and a box will appear with the message "which app do you want to open this file?"  Select JW Library and it is done.

How do you load any other file (like a PDF)?  Do you send it to Icloud and try to retrieve it from there?

I don't understand why it is kept so secret

It's really not and never has been; there have been pictures of this and other "confidential" WT publications in the Proclaimers book, and numerous references to them (even the titles of elders' manuals are referred to by name) on WOL.

The main issue we have is that the digital versions of certain things are in a kind of state of limbo; although official digital versions exist, the method(s) to obtain them are sort of ad-hoc. There's no "pioneer login" on jw.org to obtain pioneer materials. Because of this, it is being left of up elders and CO's to distribute them (and I'm not sure if they've actually been directed to  distribute them to all the pioneers; I think it has mostly been left up to pioneers to request them as an 'option', which is yet a further challenge for both the elders and the pioneers).  A lot more organization around this would be good.  Perhaps one day we will have a "publishers login" option on jw.org and then each of us can easily browse and obtain the information he or she was intended to have.

It's no secret that Elders and Ministerial Servants have different access levels in JW.Org and there is some material available to elders that isn't available to a MS. So there is already a system for accessing material based on your assignment.  It seems it would be a good idea to have material such as the Pio Book available to regular pioneers on JW.org.

A pioneer attending the Pioneer School must have a textbook to participate and be instructed.  The choice of format is made available to the student.  A printed copy is made available (generally it has to be picked up in person) and/or a digital copy.  The last time I went the only digital copies available were PDF and Epub.  I assume a jwpub version is available now.  Or sources for these digital versions were by "flash-drive" but some school assistants on hand were able to help some load the digital copy onto a device (for the electronically challenged).

I’m going to pioneer school next week and I love having the book integrated into my JW Library app. I got it quite a few weeks ago and have had plenty of time to go through it and prepare.

If anyone has had any trouble opening it in JW Library could they not ask for help from their CO or from an elder?

Anyone feeling irked that the book is not freely available to all publishers, please bear in mind that there in nothing covered in Pioneer School, or indeed SKE or Gilead, which is not already printed in our publications.

For the record: I know they are not secret. I have one. I would rather say they are classified. It is impossible to obtain it if you are not a regular pioneer, so it is classified. There is no other option. The same with other books, like the one for elders. The fact we know they exist does not make them publicly available. I like to call things by their name.

Similarly, you can say that Area 51 US army is not secret because you can see it on google maps and there are even road signs directing to the base.

You should be able to download it and simply click on it and that will automatically load and install in your JW Library app.

I know there is nothing else than extracts from past publications. I was rather referring to the fact that it could be available as other publications and that would be easy to download. As simple as that.

Yes but it isn’t. It’s only available to pioneers going to the school. Last year, the year before that, the year before that, etc I was a regular pioneer. The last time that went to the school was with the old version of the book and before we had the app. I heard from others about the new book and the updated school. But I didn’t have access to either new book or new school. Yet I was a regular pioneer! Was I bothered? Well, in a way, I wished I could go again and see the updates. But I kept pioneering and now I have the new book and I’m going to the school.

Do I view the pioneer school book as classified? I’m sorry bro, but that seems to be a laughable concept to me. Nothing in it is secret. It’s not kept in a safe behind an old master painting in my study, it’s out on my shelf. It’s information we all have free access to but condensed for the purposes of the training programme that is pioneer school.

If you have an issue with it being like that I am sorry but I struggle to understand why.

I don't have any problems with that. I only said it would be easier for the pioneers if that book was available as other pubs. I have no issue with that at all but at the same time, I don't understand the reason why it is kept "classified" (its content is sort off classified to be more precise as we know the book exists). I know it is not a secret as I have one at home, I used to be a pioneer. But technically if something is not available for the general public is classified. Classified means that something is available to authorized individuals or group of people. So if that material is not classified then what?

You have probably focused on my latest post only and took my post out of the thread context. I do not criticise that the book is not available. I only shared my observation. I said that the book is available on the internet I can't see any reason why it cannot be available in our app. It is a common argument used by the apostates that we have some secrets and we only give them ammunition for their guns. My argument is related to digital copies only as they can be copied at no cost endlessly.

As I said above, I don't have any problem with that. I know the book is useless without participating in the PS.

Sorry for not explaining better. Other members were speaking about how they were downloading other publications(not from JW.org) on their JW Library App, such as the Pioneer Book, LDC DC-82(Tortuga did this), and other literature not available on JW.org(Revelation book, etc). So I was wondering how to download these kind of publications onto my JW Library App on an iPad/iPhone? So if anyone could share with me how to do this I would be grateful. :)

Easily, just go to where these publications have been posted in defiance of theocratic instruction. To me that is far and wa-a-a-y to close to the darkside.

Hi Jerry,

I don't think these brothers/sisters are getting these publications from sites that are "in defiance of theocratic instruction". For example, you can get a PDF from brothers here on JWtalk for the Revelation book. But how to put that Revelation book or other older theocratic publications on the JW Library App is what interests me. :)

I think you misunderstood. The documents are issued by the branch in a jwpub format. The original question was about how to get that file into JWL.

A few questions:

Is there an advantage of putting a book/publication on the JW Library App versus a PDF or EPUB app?

How do we add a book/publication to the JW Library App for Apple/iOS? Is there another topic where this is discussed?

Thanks for your help :)

I misunderstood your question here. The file has to be in jwpub format.

Br. Neil, If you are discussing PDF scans of older publications (like the Harp of God), they are not able to be loaded into JW Library.  the library only accepts jwpub files.,  Most of us who have other pdf files put them into an app that can read them.  I use Documents by Readdle for Ipad. Or I use a USB to Lightning Istick to put these files in the Istick app.  You can transfer pdf files by one of the cloud services (Google Drive, Icloud, Box or Dropbox.  I have a wireless hard drive that can move files to the Apple device but you need a place to put it and a pdf reader to read it.   JW Libray will not. and download the from there

Thanks Richard, yes for documents from the Branch or for older publications(someone mentioned they had downloaded an older publication onto JWL), I was wondering how to do so for Apple devices.

Thanks John. Yes, I was wondering how PDFs of older publications could be downloaded on JWLibrary App. While the JWL can only accept jwpub files, I was thinking that others had learned to convert PDF to jwpub and then downloaded onto the JWL App. I read a recent post somewhere concerning someone doing this, but I can't remember where I read the post. Or I also could have misunderstood, likely that is the case.

I understand.  The text files can be converted to PDF and Epub.  So I suppose if someone knew the proprietary coding for jwpub files it should be possible (I guess).

Quick question after importing the pioneer book into the JW Library app, is there a way to export it to a jwpub file with all the notes and then import the jwpub file with the notes on to a different device?

Thanks

Just solved this for the pioneer book. Created a backup of my personal study notes, then imported the personal study notes on the new device and all the notes together with the highlights appear on the new device in the pioneer book.

Impressive to say the least. Got some ideas from a brother that demonstrated the use of the JW library app on the appchaser.com website.

Nice to hear that you found a way.

In case you have other notes in that device that you don't want to lose, there's an utility for Windows named JWMerge that will merge two different backup files. That way you can keep both the old and the new notes and highlightings.

You can find it here I think:

Thanks for the tip but I believe the JW Library app is a Win 10 only installation and I am happy with my Win 7 installation and because I use Windows Media Center have no interest in updating to Win 10.

Is the JW merge a standalone app or does it require JW library installations as I have the backup files if it would be a standalone app I could merge the backups and import them on my Android devices.
