There are several of us on the forum living on the thumb (Florida) sticking down in between the Atlantic and the Gulf

Please be safe dear friend, and so many others that couldn't evacuate Florida.  I just called a few friends in Orlando, and in Jacksonville.  The friends in Orlando, said they are staying cause I95 was backed up over 100 miles (those leaving southern portions of State).  The weather people are saying this is like a second Andrew.  I recall the 1st Andrew, that was one of the worst  storms that hit Southern Florida I remember.  Proverbs 18:10...Psalms 112:7

We live in Daytona Beach, and decided to go to a motel near rhe Race Track..For awhile we thought the storm would be far enough away that we would get tropical force winds and some rain and flooding on Tue. and Wed.. Now there might be a hurricane warning along the coast..the reason, besides the track, is that the storm got bigger and the wind field got wider..now 185mph. The update I am now watching says that because the progression is slowed down, the storm might meander, possibly bringing hurricand force winds ashore. We live in a manufactered home, thus going to motel.😎

I know they have reported deaths on that island due to the hurricane already (at least 5) but I don't think they will know the real death toll for several days to come.  It is a "horror" to be in the middle of something like that for so long! I can't even begin to imagine all the prayers that went up to Jehovah all at the same time (not only from the island people but from Jehovah's people all over the world praying for their family there). It will probably be several days to a week before we know anything officially about our brothers there, we much just keep praying.

Don't live for the moment - live for the future! :D

24 hours of Dorian sitting motionless at 145 - 185 mph over Grand Bahama, I can’t imagine the horror.

Yeah, I cannot imagine the horror either. I mean, I've been through some horrific winds here in NYC through the years, especially in March but 145-185 winds? Nope, cannot even begin to fathom that!

After 36 hours of pummeling winds and waves from the Cat 5 hurricane, these Arial footage has revealed shipping containers ripped open like tin cans, houses scattered and torn apart, and boats hundreds of feet inland from the nearest marinas.

The Red Cross estimates that an astounding 99 percent of people on the island will need emergency assistance, and at least 13,000 houses, 45 percent of the islands housing stock have been damaged or destroyed. Although only 5 reported deaths, that number will almost surely rise as rescue begins to make their way across the island.

Who's behind Dorian?  Stay safe all, Jehovah's time table isn't that far into the future!

So seems like the worst is behind us in this locale

(we are directly east of the Bahamas that got overwhelmed)

made a right turn as it got close to land - so that was a help to this area....

Florida areas North of us will face a larger impact

the branch has started Disaster Relief Arrangements and shared some notices already

- most supplies are going to WPBCCC ... west palm beach Christian convention center

- congregations were sent instructions for specific provisions going to Bahamas

- some LDC projects in central and South FL are hot-shotted to complete ....as workers and buildings will be needed for further DRC response

love and prayers to all who are still experiencing related storm drama

We escaped with minimal effects. Nowhere near as much rain or wind as had been anticipated - we did not even lose power.

On a personal note - my wife and I had to cancel our trip to NC ... the train we were talking has been canceled and Dorian is due to visit NC and SC about when our trip would have begun.

Thank you Sister Elizabeth!  Yes, our area will be receiving remnants of Hurricane Dorian and heavy flooding is expected in the region within the next 24 hours or so.  (Our elders were anticipating this, so this was the reason for the local needs talk last week, including the recommendation to have our emergency kits ready.)

Cancelling my afternoon cart witnessing for tomorrow and possibly Friday also.
