The Mysterious Coronavirus Spreading Worldwide

This week the United States passed another grim milestone when its number of coronavirus related deaths passed the number of Americans killed in World War 1.

Health experts in other countries are struck by how the coronavirus crisis is especially bad in the U.S.

I’m just glad the Canadian borders are still closed.

The US tested almost 30 million people with 10 percent testing positive:

Study shows this Corona virus can remain airborne

and infectious for up to sixteen hours.

The emergent coronavirus, designated severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a zoonotic pathogen that has demonstrated remarkable transmissibility in the human population and is the etiological agent of a current global pandemic called COVID-19.

We measured the dynamic (short-term) aerosol efficiencies of SARS-CoV-2 and compared the efficiencies with two other emerging coronaviruses, SARS-CoV (emerged in 2002) and Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome CoV (MERS-CoV; emerged starting in 2012).

We also quantified the long-term persistence of SARS-CoV-2 and its ability to maintain infectivity when suspended in aerosols for up to 16 hours.

And we’re  back to this again...

image.jpeg.5bbe1c1375fa3deaf4f505a6011627e8.jpeg

Australia has been doing well with Coronavirus numbers in all states bar Victoria. This last week there has been a spike of community transmission cases, which has doubled since last week, causing further restrictions and advice not to travel to and from hotspots. The R factor for Victoria is 2.5, while the rest of Australia is below 1. This is the reproduction factor, and when it’s at 2 it means cases are doubling..

At one supermarket chain, there are again limits on toilet paper and staples. People have started to panic with this uncontrolled spike.

As a shop worker that has me putting my head in my hands and muttering "Here we go again" even more than the R rate going up. The supply lines will stay open so the shelves will be restocked but panic buying everything on the shelves will only cause problems for everyone.

BTW, I do approve some buildup, during the panic buying when we couldn't get 1KG bags of rice from the supermarkets we went to a speciality shop where we could buy a 20 KG bag of rice, three days later I had covid19 and we couldn't shop for the next two weeks. But we didn't buy every packet on the shelf first.

Went to Home Depot AGAIN, to get supplies for a customer, there isn't any disinfectant anywhere. The poor store can't even get the shelves restocked before they're picked clean. With that thought  more and more are going in public without a care. I'm expecting a resurgence, maybe by September.

Sad to see double digits of new cases daily in VIC atm. I’m in SA so hopefully it doesn’t spread here again. Nightmare....

Found this live tracker on the testing for each state and overall, looks accurate.

Here is an interactive map with live updates. It's from NY Times. They are giving free access to many articles.

I learned today that Washington State is doing a mandatory face mask in any public venue, get out of your rig without a mask and you risk a big fine. At least, since the state is looking at public festivities this summer, they are trying to prevent the spread of Covid. Heard itsgetting bad all over the states again. 😢

This is what people commonly say. Most places are reopened and people are about "without care" as you put it, and its June 25th. So just think about it. Why would the virus suddenly choose to "re emerge" 90 days from now when people are already being reckless in late June?

Not being a wise guy, just asking.

Because the fall resurgence claims are based on influenza patterns, which mutate each fall and re emerges as a different strain. This is not influenza.

Whatbwill

kilely happen is more than usually, people who get the flu will wonder if they have COVID and get tested. This will paradoxically actually reveal more cases but because of the flu. ( the person may be asymptomatic more or less with COVID) but feel the flu.

I am not sure why this is surprising to anyone. The goal in March, was to lock down to "flatten the curve" (not squash the curve) to make sure the healthcare system was never overrun. As long as the healthcare system could handle the influx of patients, reopening was expected.

Now to hear the media and governors start talking about "preventing the spread", that was never the goal as without a vaccine, preventing covid is literally impossible, unless we are locked inside physical bubbles in our homes not being able to leave until a vaccine.

Oh I got you. Good point. Thanks.

But I think that when people say "resurgence" they mean that its based on the activity of the virus itself, not cases that are diagnosed/misdiagnosed. So in other words, they mean the summer will slow its virulence, and the fall will increase its virulence.

But that's not even what happens with the flu. The flu mutates. Or a better explanation for a "resurgence" is that people spend more time indoors during the winter and that spreads it because of lack of ventilation.

Its helpful to look critically at the claims of "resurgence" of a virus because it can be caused by human activity and not necessarily the virus itself.

This is why I hate the media. NBC News has basically discounted the Floyd protests as a reason for the uptick in cases around the nation. Sure, hundreds of thousands of people marching hand in hand, many screaming unmasked, for FOUR weeks straight did not produce a single covid case.

Politics, not science, is what our media is more interested in. But beachgoers and legitimate business re-openings are being blamed.

Cases are surging, over half the country have seen an increase of cases in the past week, most notably in Arizona with 77% increase, MIchigan 75%, Texas 70% and Florida 66%.

I like to get a variety of news sources. I think they all have a slight slant but in general they're just reporting the news. But keep in mind that they're just hitting the highlights, so it's also good to check their sources to get a bigger picture.

As for the spike in numbers, it's probably due to a lot of factors: protesters not distancing, people not distancing and wearing masks, and the disease is just easy to catch.
