THE FALLACY OF PROPHETIC PERFECT — WITH TRANSLATIONS OF

VERSES FROM THE PROPHETS

(R.J. Furuli, Larvik: Awatu Publishers (awatu-publishers@sf-nett.no), 2018; 361 pages, price 350

Norwegian kroner)

CHAPTER ONE: The Number of Verb Conjugations in Classical Hebrew

1.0 Classical Hebrew has only two conjugations and not four.

1.1 Phonological rules show that the way-element in imperfect consecutive is the conjunction

we.

2.0 Only two different groups of verbs are known before the Masoretes.

3.0 The four groups that can be seen in the MT (imperfect, imperfect consecutive, perfect, and

perfect consecutive) are based on the recitation of the Hebrew text in the synagogue.

3.1 Hebrew grammar was unknown when the Masoretes vocalized and pointed the

text.

3.2 The four groups are based on the differences in tone and stress of different genres

of the text when it was recited in the synagogue.

3.3 The four MT groups are pragmatic (do not express grammatical differences).

3.4 In the 13th century CE, Jewish scholars interpreted the pragmatic groups of the

MT as semantic groups (expressing grammatical differences), and the four Hebrew

conjugations were born.

3.5 Thus, the four Hebrew conjugations are based on a misunderstanding of the works

of the Masoretes.

CHAPTER TWO: The Meaning of Verb Conjugations in Classical Hebrew

1.0 Classical Hebrew does not have tenses, but only aspects.

2.0 Aspects have different meanings and different functions in different languages

2.1 The universal properties, “deictic center,” “event time,” and “reference time,” are

used to define the Hebrew aspects.

2.2 The Hebrew verbal system is compared with the verbal systems of English and

Classical Greek.

2.3 Each English aspect has only one function. The imperfective aspect in Hebrew has

six functions, and the perfective aspect five functions.

CHAPTER THREE: Perfects and Imperfect consecutives with future reference.

1.0 The existence of prophetic perfect is fiction.

2.0 Examples of perfects with future reference.

3.0 Examples of imperfect consecutives with future reference.

CHAPTER FOUR: Dating the books of the prophets

1.0 Can we trust the internal dating of the prophetic books?

2.0 Evidence in favor of the correctness of the internal date of Isaiah.

3.0 Evidence in favor of the correctness of the internal date of Daniel.

4.0 The dates of the other books of the prophets.

CHAPTER FIVE: Translations of texts with future reference.

1.0 Verses from 115 chapters in the prophets are translated.

2.0 This translation is different from all other translations, because:

3.1 Six hundred and ninety-one perfects are translated with English future. Other

translations render a number of these with English past tense and perfect.

3.2 Eighty-four imperfect consecutives are translated with English future. Other

translations render a number of these with past tense.

3.3 The perfective and the imperfective aspect are translated differently when the

context allows this.

3.4 The stems are translated differently when the context allows this.

3.5 The emphasis and stress when the subject precedes the verb is marked.

3.6 The emphasis and stress of sentence initial perfects is marked.

3.7 The force of rare syntactical constructions is conveyed in the translation.

CHAPTER SIX: The Quality of Bible Translations

1.0 Mythological renderings introduced into the translated text.

2.0 A conscious manipulation of the text.

3.0 Mistranslations in idiomatic and interpretative Bible translations.

4.0 The advantage of literal Bible translations

Just as a heads up .. It seems that Furuli’s latest book has followed  the same direction as  some other “scholars” who have  become filled with their own personal opinions and the direction the organization should go... much the same tenor as that of Raymond Franz and others.

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

I have just Googled his book and it is sad that he has criticised the GB...Now what about his other books? Does it mean we ditch them too? It is just that one brother has translated his previous book into Russian and spreads it in Russian-speaking countries. Maybe I should tell him about Furuli's unChristian act.

He is/was a brother. We're not sure at the moment. We're looking into whether this is the case, and if this rumored new book is legit or made up.

In the meantime, we're going to lock this topic, because 1) we do not discuss apostate propaganda on JWTalk, and 2) bring up his alleged new apostate book is off-topic for a topic that was originally about his latest book on Hebrew. It also looks like a discussion on his book on Hebrew has ended.
