Zoom, Skype Technical Q&A here:

Recommended Posts

I was out-of-town yesterday and today working at a brother's house - we go back for over 50 years and help each other when needed. I just got home about 30 minutes ago ... however:

I have lost my "check for updates" tab.  I can't find it or a reference to it anywhere.  I show my main Zoom login screen on the left and another computer nearby that still has the menu item.

Does anyone have a guess as to what I should do to get it back?

I have had some weird things happen with Zoom from time-to-time and found they corrected themselves when I rebooted the PC

Thanks.  I have rebooted the PC, turned off the PC, gone to the Zoom wesite, Signed in and signed out of Zoom.  I went through the setup list to see if there was any box checked to disengage the updates tab.  Any search on Zoom updates tells me to go to my avatar picture, click on it and choose "Check for Updates".

So it appears not to be instigated by the Zoom corporation.

I  have been busy with the Annual Meeting but I think I will have to try things with cache or even delete and reinstall.

I checked my system today. I clicked on my profile, and my update tab was still available...

Do you clicked on your profile pic on the top menu bar...?

Sorry I cannot think of what else to do. I would wait until you see on here there is a newer update. Then (hopefully), the new update will overcome this hiccup. IMHO

I noticed that zoom 6.2.3 on my Windows 11 PC now has "play chime for raised hand" feature on the dropdown menu for the raise hand icon. Does it play a chime on the host zoom device? I don't hear a chime when I raise my hand on the zoom client.

That is awesome, as we will have use that feature, as our Zoom gallery is projected to monitor that hangs from the ceilimg in front of the conductor. I usually pin the person onto the first screen (which the Zoom gallery) so the conductor has a better view of the name or face, and whereas others on sound desk use a yelllow hand stuck on a wooden spoon to notify the conductor there is a Zoom commentor (but they never pin the commentor's on first screen, which the conductor has to look more closely to see who it is on a gallery view).

But to have a chime when a Zoom attendee has their hand up will be more practical for the conductor to hear first, so they know someone has their hand up on Zoom without having to look up to see, but also it will trigger us on the sound desk to pin that person to first screen as well.

I will have to implement this tomorrow and see how it behaves. It could be the most annoying sound.

Has anyone had an issue with the new windows 11 update and webcam issues?

We’ve used Logitech Capture app for our webcam use on zoom- this allows us to use the wide view angle of the stage.

However, since Windows 11, this no longer works for us and only gives us the basic close up shot of the hall- which is lecture only and not even HD.

Has anyone else had this problem or know a good fix? Thanks

Well we tried out the "Raised Hand chime" feature, but sadly it is only a pop noise, which can be not noticeable as say with a ding  or any other higher tone chime. It is a handy feature, but could we have at least the options to select what chime is plays, also how loud.

We will still use it, as we only had one answerer on Zoom over the weekend, but the midweeks, we tend to have more answerers, as there are much more on Zoom.

I don't know if this as been answered before (sorry if that's the case but i can't read all this pages right now 😊), but we're having this strange behavior on our KH PC

Every time we touch anywhere on the zoom window(s) the year text disappears from the TV and we have to go to the YT window and touch it so that it shows up again

We've tried restarting, launching first JWL and then zoom, and the other way around also, and it still has this behavior

When we're sharing the screen, we have to go trough several clicks as the thing been shared also disappears from the tv and we have to go to the JWL window and touch it again

Any suggestion on how to solve this?

I'm not a big fan of a 800 page post.  I think it is counterproductive to finding answers on your own.  Individual posts are easier to sort through.  But oh well, not my forum.

This problem happens if a part of any zoom window is even 1 pixel onto the 2nd monitors.  Make sure zoom is entirely on monitor 1.

I think the zoom windows are entirely on monitor 1, but I'll double check it and guarantee that it is the case.

Thanks👍
