With at least 35 fires scorching more than 300,000 acres of land in Oregon many of the friends have lost their homes and many more are forced to evacuate. One sad but yet happy story out of this is the story of one 95 year old regular pioneer. My sis got to know her very well when they were in her Congregation for a couple years some time ago.  This 95 year old sister had resisted the pressure to move into assisted living up till now.  When the wildfire burnt the whole town (Talent, OR) to the ground she evacuated ahead of it but now the brothers now have to tell her that her home is gone. All the friends are alive and well taken care of as far as I've heard. LDC and Disaster Relief have their hands full but managing. Unlike California, the friends in Oregon are not used to this type of things happening.

No, he's talking about the Willamette River between us in Monmouth and the Santiam Canyon fire. Detroit gone with at least 6 fires between Detroit and Mehama. 0% containment with some loss of life. The friends from Detroit to Stayton under mandatory evacuation. Stayton, Sublimity, Silverton and Woodburn at Level 2 (get ready to go). CO's evacuated from Woodburn Assembly Hall to our area. Until the weather changes the Firefighter can do little but try their best to save lives and change in weather  looks like Monday at the earliest.

Scroll down a bit to the Video, road close to Lincoln City

Our KH and its very large parking are have been opened up to our brothers fleeing south. It was a four hour drive from Lincoln City to Newport yesterday.

Our house is backed up tp the woods so I filled the car with gas at the Chevron station, the line to the pumps ws was 45 minutes long. This is the nearest station to Lincoln City to the north. One of the drivers in line said it took 4 hours to drive 20 miles. He fled Otis the night before to shelter at the Casino in Lincoln City which was evacuated early yesterday. Otis is totally destroyed. Highway 101 is bumper to bumper south bound with continious emergency vehicles heading north.

Our area is still in phase 1, I feel kind of helpless, but at 82 with congestive heart failure we have no business getting physically involved even with the KH is so close. The smoke is taking a toll on our breathing even now. Visibiliy is about 1/2 mile, we haven't seen the ocean in two days.

The ocean air has returned this morning and the humidity went fro 14% to 93% with little detectable wind this should help the fire fighter a lot.

Dear bro Jerry, I can only imagine the heartbreak of hearing firsthand and seeing the destruction these fires bring. Our sheer helplessness at the totality of destruction these fires bring easily can overwhelm us emotionally. I know you and Gertrude will take every precaution and keep yourselves as safe as possible. Thinking of you all in my prayers too.

Take care my friend and leave the worries to those youngsters. I know you have some very spiritually mature and able young brothers in your Congregation.

Got 'em! Thank you.

We have 41 brothers and sisters rooming with us in Newport. With the change in weather it appears that many may return to designated areas tomorrow.

Locally the smoke persists but it was a very cool day. We had many from Lincoln City zoom with us this evening for our MWM.

We are getting smoke haze in Ohio from the fires.

California wildfires causing hazy skies in Northeast Ohio, NWS says

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

I talked with someone on the phone from Phoenix today (business matter not a JW) and he told me it was hazy from the California fires - but he added that the smoke was supposed to keep the temperature from getting above 99°/37° today and he was glad of that.

That was fast ! We have a family of 5, mother and four kids +2 Labrador dogs moving into our RV today. Evacuated from Mills City. They still don't know if their home burnt or not. Probably a week or more before they can go home. The water and power is out and the windows were open when they left so even if it is still standing there will be some major cleanup before it will be fit for little kids. Some of the town is still standing so there is still hope that not all is lost.
