Nashville authorities believe an explosion that occurred in downtown Nashville early Christmas morning was an "intentional act" and sparked by a vehicle.

Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked outside the AT&T building just before 6 a.m. Upon arrival, police said an officer "had reason" to alert the department's hazardous devices unit, which was en route, when a "significant explosion" happened.

Three people were hospitalized with injuries, police said

Police and firefighters responded to an area near Second Avenue and Commerce Street about 6:45 a.m. Friday.

The fire department confirmed a bomb squad was on the scene with an active investigation by Metro police and federal agenices.

I have heard that some vehicle bombs can be triggered by radio transmission. So the police have to move away from the vehicle before they use their radio to call for help. It must be difficult to fight the instinct to call it in immediately.

I hope this isn't going to be correlated to civil unrest due to elections....stay tuned

On Christmas?

It appears that AT&T is the primary resident of the building, hopefully it was vacant today.

From the damage on cnn seems the rv had considerable explosives in it. My guess depending on how large of an RV, probably 5 -10 tons of ammonium nitrate used.

Timothy McVeigh only used 3.5 tons to blow up the federal building in Oklahoma City. Damage in Nashville is minor in comparison to the damage in Oklahoma.

And that was in a vehicle designed to carry a lot of weight, I don't know the weight limit of an average RV.

I'm sure we will eventually get more information but it appears that someone wanted to do damage to something. We all look forward to the day we won't see Reports like this.

I believe CNN will have an update around 1pm. I can wait until proper authorities make their findings known  to the public. I don't mind being wrong on this.

Things get sadder by the minute.  Hope no one was in the building working to catch up on some things and working for extra holiday hours.  Camera has to record when and who (even if they can't make the person (s) out who drove it there and parked it.  I mean its not a Tesla RV.  It had to be parked thre for awhile and nobody noticed it.  They will probably put the RV pieces together, try to find a # to ID it, fragments speak volumes.   Hope no one was killed in this and those injured, will recover.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — An outage has affected phone and internet service for AT&T customers across Middle Tennessee and Kentucky, including some EMS lines in the area.

AT&T has confirmed that the outage is related to this morning's explosion in downtown Nashville. NewsChannel 5 is receiving reports that AT&T and DirecTV coverage is being affected, as well.

I'm 25 miles south of Nashville and felt and heard the blast thinking it was construction but not on a holiday, so I learned about the RV blast when I turned on the news. My ATT internet is down and probably will take days before it's restored as the outage is quite extensive.  We will be zoom meeting on my Tmobile phone until they get the internet restored.

Makes you wonder...what was the point? There’s a voice telling people to evacuate before the explosion. No one was killed....were they purposely avoiding killing people? Or were they not so good at bombing. McVeigh killed 168, including 19 children, and injured 680, with less firepower.

Based on the information we have so far it appears they just wanted to do damage without hurting anyone. I assume they called the police and reported gunshots, that put the police onsite so they could evacuate people. Doing it early Christmas morning and using a loudspeaker seem to indicate they didn't want anyone to get hurt.

I still wonder if it was a distraction and disabled the alarm systems so they could commit a large crime somewhere else.

My son in law studies with a man that lives in that area,  there was a lot of confusion about what took place as to be expected, they are saying there was flesh found whether it was animal or human is under investigation. Many think it was a disgruntled ATT worker that didn't want to harm people,  who knows what's on people's minds, Nashville lost a lot of jobs because of it being a high tourist destination.

It seems like it would have been easier to take the RV and go on a trip instead of blowing it up. I wonder if it was a suicide and he/she stayed inside it...😳
