No problems from day one ... working just fine with Windows 10

True. I started with the slow Crucial one. Then I felt the need for speed...(childish impulse- BIG mistake)...

I guess the "instantaneous" response I get from my NVMe has been just fine - haven't needed semi-instantaneous response.

While I prefer linux, I have lost my fair share of sleep trying to get stuff to work like, radeon, renoir audio drivers, nvidia, broadcom, acpi, qhd...I could go on and on.

I can set up a Linux server and have it ready for use in less than an hour.

I hope that includes putting the hardware together :

  • Barebone linux: 7 minutes
  • LAMP: 15 minutes
  • VM: < 3 minutes (but that's cheating since I have a bunch of templates set up on proxmox)

unless I have to install gentoo, then...well...that usually requires a pot (or two) of coffee :coffee:

Coming from HDD to 15 sec boot on SSD did bring a smile to my face, but there were consequences.

Yes. Its such a joy to use an SSD. Even the older SATA SSD's are such a great improvement. But the NVME SSD's are much more convenient to install. I don't notice any practical speed difference between a SATA SSD and NVME SSD in normal usage.

Yes. 2 decacore processors, 512 gb of ram, 4 nvme drives, 4 spinning drives for backups, plus all the software needed for virtualization. But now we are way off topic.

Microsoft has recommended that Windows 11 users uninstall update KB5012643 from their systems due to an ongoing issue with launching system applications.

10 Big Reasons Not to Upgrade to Windows 11
If you don't want to buy a new computer or give up an efficient interface that you love, then don't upgrade to Windows 11. Windows 10 does everything just as well, and in some cases even better.

Getting off topic    decacore = 10. From Latin just don't count to 10 in Latin if you are trying to calm down and not throw your computer running windows along with sales person out a 10th floor window.

"Over the past several months, we’ve updated many of these apps to match the new design of Windows 11 while also introducing exciting new features based on your feedback. [There are some nice tweaks. However, I am still smarting from the loss of control over the task bar. ]

Windows 11 on the laptop controlling Zoom blue screen'ed on us last night, right in the middle of the meeting 🤦‍♂️

It came with Windows 11 so we didn't really have a choice. I'd say it just hasn't had the time to mature as much as Windows 10 yet.

We also had a several problems with Windows 11 PC with JW Library and Zoom both turned on, screen sharing. Ever since we’ve downgraded to Windows 11, the problems vanished.

I wondered if Windows 11 works well for other congregations, or if it was just for us only.

I have setup an work colleagues new laptop that has Win11. I hate it, I found Win10 was bad enough, but Win11 takes it.to.another level. Most of the settings and options either are masked behind something else, or very hard to find.

It normally took me only an hour to setup a new computer that ran on Win7, but it blew out to 3hrs on Win10, and 4 and a bit for Win11.

Win11 is basically designed to monitor your every move, which Win10 started to do when it was introduced. There were only 7 areas you had to edit to make privacy secure in Win7, but there were over 43 areas in Win10, and Win11, it basically impossible, as it breaks Win11.

We deal with sensitive data but Microsoft wants to be like Google in knowing what you so on your machine.

As for Edge, when people were asking why they renamed MS web browser to EDGE, many had some wild ideas, however I posted that is stood for Extracting Data Gathering Engine, which the forum moderator had been served a notice from some lawyers to delete my post. I must have been way too close to the mark.

Thus I have set my Win10 laptop not to upgrade to Win11.

Got a link that shows all the privacy stuff with Windows 11 that you should turn off?

here is a pretty good place to start:

https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-make-the-switch-from-windows-to-linux

if that doesn't work, get a bigger sledge hammer?

still doesn't work?  this page has some decent information, doesn't cover it all, but is a good start: https://www.jetico.com/blog/how-take-back-your-windows-11-privacy

It basically when you first setup your computer, and the best way is not the link it to a Microsoft account. Set it as a private computer. They want to "experience" the benefits to linking it, but we know what they mean by "experience". Also too, We use Windows XX Pro OS's, as they are more easier to work with as you do get more management tools. I am still finding a few areas that need sorting out, but @howudodat links posted above is a good start.

My last Win 11 update changed my File Explorer layout. I struggle to use it.
How can Microsoft get it so wrong?
If you are going to turn something on it's head, why not warn people beforehand? Or have a 'classic' option to go back to what works (and has worked for decades) for the user?

I agree. Having to press “more options” on the drop down menu is a pain. I think I was trying to move files and went Wha? Where did it go?? 🤔

You can revert that to windows 10.  More info is here: https://appuals.com/disable-show-more-options-windows-11/

But better yet, switch to linux
