Everything looks beautiful in theory … but let me give you example. (I know this first hand from big USA publisher Jamie S - publisher of Wingspan, Tapestry, Finspan etc)
There are millions of Boardgames produced in China every single year.
Cost of boardgame (retail version) is around $10-20 US dollars … for which consumer in the USA pays $50-$70 dollars. (distribution, taxes, profit margins included)

Now… to set up production in US 🇺🇸 would require importing printing machines, laser cutters and molders that do not exist in US.
The machinery has tariffs on them so to build factory and get equipment is very expensive and would require 4-5 years of construction and setting up manufacturing. But the problem is that USA is more expensive than China … labour costs and others would be much higher so the game that is now possible to produce in China for $10-20 would jump to $30-40 and the final product in the shop would cost instead of $50-70 ….if imported from China ….it would jumped significantly to higher prices like $100-130 which means less volume sells …. Normal consumer who can afford to buy several games a year would be spending less if the cost is higher … there is vicious loop with this solution and no matter how we look at it … its not good for normal people like you and me. Also if the factory is build in US it can sell Boardgames only to US people (very narrow market) as the rest of the world would be still buying them from China (for example here in AUSTRALIA we do not have those tariffs and Jamie S distribution goes China - Australia direct. See the problem for US manufacturing??????

My retirement is still OK.  I put my retirement funds in a growth fund not affected by the stock market back in mid-March.  I plan to stay awhile.  When or IF the stock market looks safe again, I will transfer my retirement funds to the L-income fund which has 26% of the total funds in the stock market.  That is fairly safe when the stocks are not in freefall.

In early 2025, President Trump implemented extensive tariffs on several major U.S. trading partners, including China, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union, aiming to address perceived trade imbalances and promote domestic manufacturing. Notably, Russia was exempted from these new tariffs. This exemption can be attributed to the already minimal trade between the U.S. and Russia, largely due to existing sanctions that have significantly curtailed economic interactions. By 2024, U.S. imports from Russia had dwindled to approximately $3 billion, down from $29 billion in 2021, rendering additional tariffs largely symbolic and unlikely to exert further economic pressure.

Furthermore, President Trump has expressed intentions to leverage potential tariffs and sanctions as tools to influence Russia's actions, particularly concerning the conflict in Ukraine. In January 2025, he threatened to impose "high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions" on Russian goods if a peace agreement was not reached promptly. However, given the already limited trade, such measures would have minimal practical impact.

In summary, the absence of new U.S. tariffs on Russian goods in 2025 reflects the already diminished trade relationship due to prior sanctions, making additional tariffs unnecessary and ineffective as a means of exerting further economic pressure.

How long is "promptly"? Based on how he is applying this to every other nation - isn't "promptly" already passed?

PS trade amongst some of the islands and nations that tarriffs were added to is WAY LESS than the US currently trades with Russia.

That's politics for you. And also human nature. Promptly is subjective.  Replying promptly to a text message or email is not the same length of time as promptly replying by snail mail.

I don't care. I see and hear too many Christians who claim they are neutral make commentary that they are influenced by only one side of the media spin.

Are times tough? Yes. The Bible said these are critical times. Are the times easier or harder depending on who is in office? Maybe. Depends on who you are and where you live. Every administration is harder on someone. That's what makes neutrality hard.

All I intended to do was provide an answer to why Russia is not on the tariffs list.

What are we seeing today? The breakdown of one of the biggest parts of Satan's system—much bigger than tariffs.

We are witnessing the simultaneous breakdown of the domestic political order, the international geopolitical world order, and the monetary/economic order.

Like a single wave that is part of a tsunami, so is this one permacrisis converging into the polycrisis-the birth pangs of distress.

Which is appreciated Shawn. We all learn, expand our horizons from a discussion.

Lack of discussion leaves the person with narrow viewpoint.

Thanks again.

China taxed at 104 percent 😲

How much will be iPhone in USA?

There are also thousands of everyday products imported from China so cost of living will go up significantly.

For example 78% portable computers come from China.

Technically not yet... starts from Wednesday and there could be last minute call from China and tariff can be paused. https://www.afr.com/world/north-america/us-to-impose-104pc-tariffs-on-china-from-wednesday-20250409-p5lqat

What are you planting sis?

It just the two of us. We used to plant corn, tomatoes, (several varieties, one of our favorites, heirloom tomatoes) cucumbers, regular and round ones, peppers, jalapeños, (we used them when we can smoked salmon, along with garlic) green beans, potatoes, and, yes, kale. Onions.
We ended up with too much, and was basically having a big garden, mainly to share. Lots of work, and yes fun.

I’m in my eighties, and my husband a few years behind me. In reality, it got to be too much for just two of us.
We narrowed it down to corn and tomatoes. We still share, mainly the tomatoes.
This year, I’ve ordered Amish seeds for the corn. Tomatoes. We just can’t help ourselves. We’ve went from 10 or 12 plants, to about six.
I want to do more this year, because, well because…

i want bush green beans, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers.
We have raspberries that I have trimmed and fed, and they look beautiful.

We also have two apple trees. Fuji apples.

Used to have wonderful cherries, until the cherry maggots came visiting. We buy our cherries now.
Plus, you don’t want to get me started on flowers. We really enjoy them, too.
Jehovah has been kind to us.
We live rural, no neighbors. Wildlife can be a problem. (A deer stuck his nose in through our yard fence, and, ungraciously helped his or her self to one of my most favorite Asiatic Lilies). It has been two years, and it will bloom this year.
Oh, I forgot our hymalian blackberries. All over the place. Invasive. But we mostly keep them at bay. I have to correct my attitude about them, and make my husband a pie out of the things…

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

Is China involved in this war? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2vg1x7g32o

Depends on what you think involved means. It also depends on how each government wants to spin the facts.

Article says the Chinese individuals were fighting for Russia. Since they were fighting for Russia, one could argue that the Russians are the ones involved in the war and these particular individuals just happened to be Chinese citizens who decided to fight under Russian authority.

To my knowledge China has not declared war on Ukraine.

On the other hand, it's interesting that just a few months ago we read reports about North Korean troops that were also fighting for Russia in Ukraine. Again, to my knowledge North Korea has not declared war on Ukraine yet here is another instance where individuals from a Russia allied nation have been reported fighting in this conflict.

Remember, the United States never declared war on North Vietnam, yet US troops were actively involved in that conflict for 15+ years. Likewise, the US never declared war on Afghanistan yet the war on terror, the fighting against ISIS, and the hunt for Bin Laden involved decades of US forces involved in that region.
