It started out as a 6.2 and was upgraded to 6.9.   Dutch thinks it was actually a 7.0.

Dutch has a video about this rare earthquake.  It occurred near BP' s Deep Horizon oil rig.

Thanks, Sister Ross - whew.......that is too close to home for me.  I am used to hurricanes, electrical storms, tornadoes but not earthquakes.

We did a helicopter tour over the top of that volcano several years ago, I have some great video of some minor volcanic activity. We've visited the volcano national park several times, the damage from previous volcanic eruptions is very impressive.

x6 5.0 eqs have struck Tonga today/yesterday. Fallout from Hawai'i ? Not sure. Ring of Fire VERY active.

 

Current status of Leilani - Hawai'i - ten active fissures (Land - not sure about how many out to sea) and at least 26 homes engulfed by lava splatter or flows.

Interesting thing is ... a wife of an oil rigger came onto his channel and said that there is a large oil rig right in that location. Hasn't been confirmed as yet though.

Yeah, we felt this. My wife was already up, but it woke me up at about 5:30 a.m. It wasn't too bad, lasted about 5 seconds, and I did what I usually do when it happens while I'm sleeping; turned over and went back to sleep.  😪

Is this thread just about general earthquake info? 

If so, I've got some research I did for a #3 talk a while back, which I eventually updated, made some charts for and used for my first public talk that may be of some interest here.

 

Some quick statistics that were based off of info found in the USGS website (not sure if it's still available, I don't think it is, if need be I think I could find it with the wayback machine)

Of the top 21 deadliest earthquakes over the last 2017 years (essentially the worst earthquakes ever recorded), 11 have occurred in just the last 104 years. The increase in the frequency of highly deadly earthquakes is staggering.

From 1980-1999 (a 20 year period) there were a total of 168,523 earthquake related deaths.

From 2000-2016 (a 17 year period) there were a total of 820,129 earthquake related deaths.

This has so far been the deadliest 20 year period since 1900.

 

Below is a breakdown of earthquake fatalities by decade:

 

 

You can see that there are two other greatly impacted decades besides 2000's and 2010's, the 1920's and 1970's. However, taken continuously, 2000-2016 was far deadlier than any other two decades - and the decade is not even over yet. 

 

I hope this information - though sad - does prove useful in proving to yourself that Jesus' prophecy recorded in Matthew 24 is coming true, as well as in edifying others.

With no magma below it's caldera, the surface of Kilauea's crater continues to collapse, plugging the vent, and preventing steam and gases from escaping.  As the pressure builds, the possibility of explosive erruptions is heightened.

Time will tell.
