We did a helicopter tour over the top of that volcano many years ago and saw some active lava. Pretty cool tour. The volcano is in the Volcano National Park on the Big Island, it's very eerie to drive through the park and see all the damage that the volcano has done.

The US Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is raising the volcano alert level/aviation color code for Kīlauea from Advisory/Yellow to Watch/Orange due to this activity.

Two quake reports came in to my phone, too close together to be a magnitude correction.

 

The felt reports are too conflicting for it to have been a single quake.  Some said the shaking lasted 15 to 20 seconds.  Others claim it lasted 1 to 2 minutes.  Explanation: 2 separate events?

 

Also, if you look at the Google map location for the 6.9 quake, it shows TWO separate quake locations.

 

The USGS turned the two big quakes in the New Zealand region into just one quake and downgraded it significantly, only to come back a few days later and admit they MISreported them.

 

The USGS recently pulled the exact same faulty reporting on the two big quakes in the South Sandwich Islands region.  

 

The USGS needs to get its government funded act together.  Between the computer glitches and faulty reports, I no longer give that agency much credence.

 

Better to just read the felt reports and look for a quake's "footprint".

The location of the initial event(s) was northeasr of Acapulco. But Acapulco is the nearest big city to the actual epicenter(s) and it was certainly felt there.  Peple in Mexico City are posting felt it reports.

Thanks, but I am just an ardent observer.  By observing quake reports for so long, I have begun to notice

when little "anomalies" come along.

 

So, nothing particularly special...just being observant of a subject I have always been fascinated with.

Wow, Sister Elizabeth!   That is getting a little too close to home, hey?

 

It took nearly a day, but the USGS is now labeling the ten mile deep, felt 3.0 quake "unconfirmed"

and is now claiming the originally reported 10 mile depth of the 3.0 as "unknown". 

 

Since I seriously doubt it was a quarry blast at that depth, a fracking quake

or  a spontaneous-combustuous-coniferous, 

I am guessing the USGS is about to claim the 3.0 quake was just another one of their 'computer glitches'.

An active day for 5.0+ earthquakes and it's just getting started.  

 

Ten 5.0+ quakes in one 24-hour period would be a lot and there have already been nine reported.

 

 

 

One 5.0+ quake near Fiji occurred at a depth of 593 kilometers, which can cause shallower, even larger quakes in the surrounding region.  

 

Will be interesting to see what the final 5.0+ quake count for the day will be. 🤔
